CAPS CELEBRATES 10 YEARS!
WE ARE PROUD TO CELEBRATE the Community Ambassador Program for Seniors’ (CAPS) 10th year anniversary! What initially began as a “Fresh Ideas” grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has grown to become a nationally recognized, award-winning City of Fremont program whose goal is train volunteer
ambassadors to assist older adults in identifying local resources and services. The CAPS program is designed so information is available where older adults naturally congregate and in the language they feel most comfortable using. If you are looking for a meaningful volunteer opportunity to serve the

October Birthday Party Celebration Friday October 13 1pm—2pm Join us as we celebrate October birthdays. Everyone is welcome, even if it is not your birthday! Live entertainment by Kraynork the Magician. Free cake and ice-cream will be given to all attendees and all those celebrating an October birthday receive a free gift. Halloween Boo Bash Thursday October 26 1.30—4.30pm Join us for a Hoppin’ Halloween Boo Bash. Bring your dancing shoes along with your most creative costumes for a costume contest. Delicious appetizers will be served by Lake Side Café’s Chef Jeff and live music will be provided by the Magic Notes. Tickets are on sale at our front desk for $12.

On Friday September 15th the Fremont Senior Center celebrated 37 years of serving the community with an estimated 500+ people in attendance. The day was filled with demonstrations from classes like Zumba, Walk This Way, Yuanji and New Life Line Dance to name
a few. An attendee mentioned that the event was a good visual of how important the senior center is to the Fremont community. She stated “you come every day and don’t realize how many people use the senior center until you attend an event like this one.”

LIFE ElderCare will discuss how they work to assure no senior goes hungry, suffers from loneliness, or lacks transportation help. SCAM PREVENTION WORKSHOP Tuesday October 12 11am in Wing A Join us for an important workshop by The East Bay Community Law Center. The presentation will give you information and tips on how to avoid falling victim to scams. LAS/HICAP Thursday October 26 11am in Wing A Join us for a free presentation by the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) of Legal Assistance for Seniors. They will cover information on changes to the Medicare Prescription Drug (Part D) Plans and Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans in the coming year. They will also give an overview of eligibility, costs, benefits, and changes in Medicare Parts A and B. HICAP will also go over options for supplementing Medicare and getting help with medical costs (including the Extra Help program).

THIS MONTH’S HIGHLIGHT On Tuesday October 10th from 2pm to 5pm the Tri-City Health Center Mobile Health Van will be hosting a special event called Crucial Catch Day. Tri-City staff will provide screenings and educational material on breast and cervical cancer in front of the Fremont Senior Center or FCC. Learn how you can reduce your risk for cancer and find it early. This event is for the whole family. Invite your kids and grandkids to enjoy kid friendly activities!
