September is National Senior Center Month and the perfect time to stop by the Age Well Centers to see what piques your interest. The National Council on Aging encourages all older adults to discover your friendships, health, purpose, and creativity at your local senior center and in Fremont’s case, an Age Well Center!
Senior centers work with community partners to provide access to health, economic security, social engagement, purpose, creativity, mobility, and nutrition—all in a social and fun environment. Older adults that participate in senior centers report lower levels of depression and stress and discover supportive friendships. Be sure to read the Human Services Department’s older adult newsletter, Age Friendly Fremont, each month and pick something to participate in that you’d enjoy! Maybe you’d like to try, creative writing, at the Age Well Center at Lake Elizabeth or volunteer in the garden regularly at the Age Well Center at South Fremont.
Request the newsletter be sent to you monthly by going to city.fremont.gov/affnews to learn more about the Age Well Centers, visit city.fremont.gov/agewellcenters. The Age Well Center at Lake Elizabeth 510-790-6600 is located at 40086 Paseo Padre Pkwy and the Age Well Center at South Fremont 510-742-7540 is located at 47111 Mission Falls Ct. COVID-19
The Age Well Center at Lake Elizabeth has added some new friendly faces to our team! Please meet Yura Fukami and Bhargavi (Bobbie) Parikh, our new Guest Assistants in the office. If they seem familiar it’s because they have been a part of our AWC Lake community for a while.
Yura volunteered in our kitchen for four years before transitioning over to her new role in the office. Bobbie was a part time volunteer and has helped with our Annual Crabfeed Fundraiser in the past. Please stop by the office to welcome Yura and Bobbie!
The Age Well Center at South Fremont has added a new friendly face to our team! Please meet Jennifer Hsiao. Jennifer is an administrative and customer service professional with 10 years of industry experience.
Her passion for office management comes from her love for personal interaction and administrative work. Jennifer is fluent in Mandarin. She joined the AWC at South Fremont in August 2023 as the Office Specialist and looks forward to meeting everyone.
