SEPTEMBER 2020

AN AGE-FRIENDLY CITY IS A LIVABLE CITY THE FREMONT SENIOR CENTER IS CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE due to COVID-19 and the Shelter In Place Order issued by the Alameda County Public Health Department. However, a number of services are still available including online FCS classes, trainings and meals! (See pages inside for details.)

In the early 1970’s, a dedicated group of Fremont citizens named Fremont Retired Elders Self Help (F.R.E.S.H) raised funds and worked hard to establish the Fremont Senior Center (FSC) at Lake Elizabeth. Under the Human Services Department, the facility opened its doors on September 8, 1980. Due to increasing demand, the building has undergone three major additions and is currently undergoing additional renovations. Up until recently, the Center served on average 350 older adults and 125 meals per day with the generous help of 150 volunteers. With over 35 class offerings a month, an abundance of health and wellness appointments, and in partnership with 10 cultural and special interest groups, the center has been a hub of activity for older adults to remain healthy, active, social and supported. As the FSC celebrates its’ 40th Anniversary, the City of Fremont’s Human Services Department wishes to thank all older adults; FSC members, Fremont’s policy makers; and those who had the foresight to establish this special place. We look forward to getting together in person again when it is safe: but until then please commemorate this momentous occasion and join a Drive-by 40th Anniversary Celebration Parade on September 22nd from 11am—12pm. All are invited, but please RSVP by emailing seniorcenter@fremont.gov or leave us a message at 510.790.6600.
