WIC Launches EBT Cards The Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program is launching electronic benefits transfer (EBT) cards in Alameda County on September 3, 2019! Clients can look forward to a faster and smoother shopping experience. Instead of receiving paper checks, WIC clients will receive cards loaded with
their WIC benefits. Clients will be able to shop for their foods by swiping the cards at checkout. A new phone app will be launched to help clients check their WIC card balances and scan different items at the grocery store to check if they are WIC-eligible foods. WIC is a national nutrition program serving low-income pregnant and breastfeeding women and parents raising infants and children under 5 years of age. Meet ASABA
Formed as a non-profit in 2006, the Afghan Senior Association of the Bay Area (ASABA) is a social, cultural, democratic, and non-political service organization for Afghan seniors. It was created to improve the quality of life for its members. For 13 years, ASABA has promoted social and cultural activities for maintaining good physical and mental health, happiness and well-being. The group provides health and computer classes and offers lectures on many topics including environmental, legal, and family issues. Additionally, members enjoy monthly picnics and barbecues in Bay Area parks to create a sense of community and belonging. Members come from all walks of life and all are welcome. ASABA meets Thursdays from 1-5pm at the FRC in a safe, stress-free environment and anyone wishing to join can contact ASABA’s Executive President, Mohammad T. Mehdavi at 510.427.6486. PG2

The Alameda County Social Services Agency provides safety net services to families, older adults, children, immigrants, and refugees, in partnership with community organizations and advocates. Our goal is to better equip individuals and households to face the challenges they may encounter on their path to self-sufficiency, personal independence and family stability. Some of our services include cash and nutrition assistance (CalWORKs, General Assistance, CalFresh), health insurance (Medi-Cal), job and career development support, and emergency housing resources. Free language interpretive services are available for non-English speaking and Limited English speaking (LEP) customers. The FRC operates a drop-in, hourly childcare service for well children and it’s open to the public. At Discovery Cove, kids can participate in arts and crafts with caring adults for up to 12 hours a week. Call for reservations. Fremont Family Resource Center
ACCESS provides information, screening and referrals for Alameda County residents who need mental health and/or drug and alcohol treatment. ACCESS is answered by County licensed mental health clinicians Monday-Friday 8.30am to 5.00pm. After hours calls are returned by Alameda County Crisis Support Services. The telephone menu is in six languages: English, Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, and Cambodian. ACCESS uses a telephone interpretation service for additional languages and California Relay for persons who are deaf or hard of hearing. An Alameda County Behavioral Health program.
