MAKING CONNECTIONS
This September, the National Institute of Senior Centers (NISC) wants the Fremont Senior Center along with senior centers across the nation, to show how they help individuals age well. Many adults 55+ frequent the senior center and have lunch at Lake Side Café, located inside the center. Lunch is served Monday—Friday at noon by Chef David Lee and his hardworking volunteers. Eating with others at the Fremont Senior Center (located at 40086 Paseo Padre Pkwy in Fremont), isn’t just about enjoying a delicious, hot, affordable meal — it’s also about connecting with peers, making new connections and getting out of the house on a regular basis. The Mental Health Foundation states sharing mealtimes is good for your mental health. Whether it be through sharing experiences with friends or just having someone to talk to. Regular shared mealtimes provide a sense of rhythm and regularity in lives. They offer a sense of containment and familiarity and can evoke deep feelings of contentment and security. In need of groceries? TCV Mobile Pantry makes it convenient for adults 55+ and brings the groceries to the FSC the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at 1.30pm. No proof of income is required, just show up and take a number. Fresh produce, baked goods, cereal and protein are given out “farmer’s market style”. Please note: Maximum number served is 100 people.

Tai Chi Instructor Stands the Test of Time FSC would like to thank volunteer instructor of 17 years James Chew. James has a really calm demeanor and is perfect for teaching Tai Chi. His class helps focus the mind, and strengthen the immune system. In a very real sense, Tai Chi helps James’ students stay in good mind and body health. We are very grateful for James’ dedication and time!
