The City of Fremont police have a tradition of excellence and work hard to make sure our older residents are safe. Some of the specific programs that are agefriendly include: You Are Not Alone (YANA) is a free telephone reassurance program in which volunteers call enrollees daily (Monday—Friday) to ensure their safety and well-being. Volunteers in Police Services (VIPS) Pictured: Volunteers in Police Services (VIPS) connect with the community in many ways. They help enforce handicapped parking laws, respond to neighborhood requests for patrol checks and provide safety information to the public. NIXLE is a community alert system that can help find older adults who are lost. Officers can then refer families to senior services for assistance. We can all be involved in preventing crimes. To learn about scams that often target older adults be on the lookout for the scam alert trainings offered by the Age Well Centers annually. Lastly, participate in your neighborhood’s National Night Out gathering taking place August 2nd! To learn more about police department programs call Linda Otoya at 510.790.6691 or lotoya@fremont.gov
