Hours: Monday-Friday 8am—4:30pm 510-742-7540

National Night Out, a national community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships, is Tuesday, August 1. With that in mind, now is a good time to take a few simple precautions to reduce your risk and to discourage those who commit crimes. Here are some tips that can help you avoid becoming a victim of a crime when you are out and about.

Be Prepared: Always be alert and aware of the people around you. Educate yourself concerning crime prevention tactics. Be aware of locations and situations that can make you more vulnerable to crime, such as alleys and dark parking lots.

Street Precautions: Be especially alert to your surroundings if you are alone or it is dark. Whenever possible, travel with a friend. Stay in well-lit areas and avoid doorways, bushes and alleys where someone could be hiding. Make eye contact, walk confidently and at a steady pace. If you carry a purse, hold it securely between your arm and body.

Car Safety: Always lock car doors when entering or leaving your car. Park in well-lit areas. Have your car keys in your hand, so you can get into it quickly. Check the back seat before entering your car. If you think you are being followed, drive to a public place or a police, sheriff, or fire station.

TALENTED ARTIST GIVES TO THE AWC

The Age Well Center at South Fremont would like to give a big thank you to local artist, art collector, author, photographer and volunteer Gerald Patrinos. A graduate of San Francisco State University with a Bachelors of Arts, Gerald has shown his work in various galleries throughout the Bay Area, including the Olive Hyde Art Gallery in Fremont. His thoughtfulness and generosity is greatly appreciated. The three pieces he donated, matted and framed, soften the crisp white walls at the new Age Well Center, displaying his preferred medium of acrylic and watercolor. Thank you Gerald!
