Hours: Monday-Friday 8am—4:30pm 510-742-7540

When Betts Stroh moved to Fremont in 2021, she was concerned about driving in a new area with a lot of traffic.

“Psychologically, it was a big hump”, Betts said, to make the transition away from driving “but now, I’m the biggest fan of the Ride-On Tri-City! Program.”

Although Betts has family locally, she “doesn’t like imposing on others.” Betts uses the program’s subsidized Lyft service to go to Kaiser, stores, church, and the local high school track for workouts. At the age of 90, Betts still has a driver’s license, but only keeps it in case she wants to rent a car when she travels. She notes that the “thousands of dollars” she used to spend on a vehicle, is freed up for other needs. Through the Ride-On Tri-City! Program, Betts receives up to 30 subsidized Lyft rides per month in the Tri-City area. When asked about driving vs. using Lyft, Betts said, “I feel safer using the City’s Lyft service” and “the drivers are courteous and arrive within 6-10 minutes of my Lyft app request”. “Plus”, she adds, “everything I need and want to do, I can get there!”

Ride-On Tri-City! provides transportation assistance to older adults and individuals with disabilities, and is funded by the Alameda County Transportation Commission (www.alamedactc.org).
