MAY 2020

AN AGE-FRIENDLY CITY IS A LIVABLE CITY THE FREMONT SENIOR CENTER IS CLOSED THROUGH MAY 31ST due to COVID-19 and the Shelter In Place Order issued by the Alameda County Public Health Department. However, a number of services are still available and there are eleven FCS classes available online! (See pages 2 and 3 for details.)

For 57 years we have celebrated Older American Month in May. The federal theme this year is Make Your Mark to honor the volunteerism of older adults. Our community is fortunate, we enjoy a multitude of older volunteers who help at the Senior Center as Peer Counselors, to deliver Meals on Wheels, and so much more. Right now older volunteers who are at higher risk for COVID-19 must stay home interrupting volunteer efforts. The Tri-City Elder Coalition in partnership with the Senior Commissions of Fremont, Newark and Union City was going to present Difference Maker Awards to honor older volunteers at our Spring Fling event. Unfortunately, this will have to happen at a later date. While it is challenging right now, it is important to recognize the efforts of older adults who have given so much. Now older neighbors need assistance from their remaining community. Thank you to all. Everyone can make a difference in the life of an older adult and their caregivers to make our community stronger.
