AGE-FRIENDLY FREMONT CENTER IN WARM SPRINGS

We are pleased to invite you to the groundbreaking for a new Age-Friendly center located in the Warm Springs area of Fremont. The new facility will be 11,000 sq. ft. and feature a large indoor/outdoor dining area along with several meeting rooms and activity areas. We will be providing an array of classes and activities for older adults such as exercise classes, informational events, access to many social services and cultural celebrations at the new center — it will be operated by the City of Fremont Human Services Department. The Fremont Senior Center at Lake Elizabeth will continue to provide its outstanding programs for older adults. Please join the celebration as we break ground to begin construction. The Fremont Senior Center will be closed on Monday May 27 in observance of Memorial Day. May Birthday Party Celebration Friday May 10 in FSC Dining Room 1.30—2.30pm New time & location! The notorious Hoot and Holler band will be here playing some of their country and bluegrass music. Everyone is welcome, even if it is not your birthday! Free cake and ice-cream will be given to all attendees and all those celebrating a May birthday receive a FREE gift. Sponsored by Roses’ Mortuary, the Builders Fund and the Garden Club. Outdoor Spring BBQ and Dance Thursday May 9 Central Park Picnic Area - Lions 1 & 2 12—3pm Spring has sprung and the FSC is in full bloom celebrating Older Americans Month! Let’s take advantage of being located at beautiful Lake Elizabeth and enjoy BBQ tri-tip, pork links and more (See menu on page 6). After you enjoy your BBQ feast cooked by Chef David, head over to the Pavilion for the sounds of the Canyon Band. $10 for
members and $12 for non-members covers the special meal, live music and dancing. Getting your ticket in advance is strongly encouraged. Memory Lane Photo Albums Monday May 13 1.30—2.30pm Join the FSC staff and share a favorite photo album from the past. Bring in your wedding, children, family or traveling photo album to share with friends. We look forward to taking a trip down memory lane and seeing some blasts from the past! 2018 Tax Season in Review AARP Tax assistance offered a great service this tax season between February 7—April 11. The dedicated volunteers were able to process 465 tax returns and get $465,814 in refunds! That is an average of $1,001.75 per return! That is phenomenal and we want to thank all of the volunteers for their hard work and service.

Older Americans Month 2019 Festivities
Each year, more and more older adults are making a positive impact in and around Fremont. They offer insight and experience that benefit the entire community! That’s why Older Americans Month (OAM) led by the Administration for Community Living (ACL) has been recognizing the contributions of this growing population for 56 years. This year’s OAM theme, Connect, Create, Contribute, encourages older adults and their communities to: •
Connect: Stop by the FSC and sign up for a class, listen to speakers or have lunch at Lakeside Café with peers.

Create: Become a member of the Piecemakers Quilt Guild of Southern Alameda County and start attending their Ladies Academy Finishing School the 3rd Saturday of each month at Holy Redeemer Church in Newark CA. Learn new techniques, get help with projects and finish old ones!
