4 Steps to Emergency Preparedness for Older Adults

Adults 60 years of age and older are among the most vulnerable when disaster strikes. That’s why it’s critical that adults 60+, and those who care for them, take steps to be better prepared for times like now. If you’re 60 years of age or older, or care for an adult 60 years of age and older, follow the steps below:

Step 1. Find your five trusted allies and share your plan

Step 2. Prioritize your health needs and create lists

Step 3. Create your emergency supplies kit

Step 4. Plan how and when to evacuate

The City of Fremont and the Human Services Department is a strong advocate for seniors and want to help adults 60+ be prepared. If you utilize a Human Services Department program, a 4 Steps to Emergency Preparedness booklet will be mailed to your home in the next few weeks. The booklet goes into greater detail about the 4 steps above and includes a hands-on worksheet for you.

If you don’t think we have your address and you would like one mailed to your home, email mdominguez@fremont.gov or call us at 510.574.2050 and tell us you’d like the 4 Steps to Emergency Preparedness booklet mailed to your home. Be sure you leave us your name and address! Together we are a strong community.
