CENSUS 2020 IS HERE
Census 2020 is here! Your count matters! Every ten years the federal government conducts a Census count of the country’s population. This year is the first time the Census is primarily being conducted online, putting our seniors at risk of being undercounted. Children, foreign-born residents, and non-English speakers are also historically undercounted populations. Everyone deserves to be counted in the 2020 Census! The Census data informs the distribution of billions of dollars in federal funding for important services such as healthcare, education, and safety. The Census also determines the number of Congress representatives our community receives. Beginning March 12, households can complete the Census form online or by phone. Starting April 8, 2020 households may complete the Census through a mailed paper form. All Census responses are confidential and protected by law.

Host and Lunch Ticket Sellers Needed Do you want to help your community but don’t know where to start? Become a host or sell lunch tickets once a week! Hosting duties include greeting people that walk into the center, asking them to sign in and answering general questions. Volunteer Spotlight: Sue Teneyck Sue Teneyck has been a valued front desk volunteer for over 17 years at the Fremont Senior Center. She also volunteers for the Builders Fund and donates her time as a Senior Peer Counselor for the Human Services Department. Wow! Talk about being a community servant. Thank you Sue for your years of dedication and hard work!
Should a Bus Stop Continue to Operate in Front of the FSC? AC Transit is proposing two scenarios that change bus routes in Fremont and Newark. Both proposals would eliminate bus service along Paseo Padre Parkway including the #239 and #215 stops at the Fremont Senior Center/Central Park. The closest bus stop would be about a half mile away on Stevenson Blvd. Visit Fremont/Newark project page at www.actransit.org/redesignfremontnewark to see maps of the draft proposed route alternatives, how the plan was developed, how the changes might impact your travel and more. You may also stop by the FSC for more information. If you would like to comment in person on the proposed changes, please attend the public hearing on Thursday, March 26th at 2pm and 6pm at the Fremont Main Library in the Fukaya Room located at 2400 Stevenson Blvd. in Fremont.
