FRC Hosts Tri-City Chamber of Commerce Mixer On December 5th, the FRC dazzled with holiday spirit as it hosted a successful Tri-City Chamber of Commerce Mixer. Business owners and elected officials from Fremont, Union City and Newark mingled as they learned more about the wealth of resources available to individuals and families at the FRC. The event was beautifully decorated with holiday treats and an impressive display of poster boards highlighting each of the 24 partner agencies at the FRC.

This mixer was a part of the FRC’s commitment to expand our reach to inform community members about FRC programs and services. Chamber members are valued members of our community, and they attended this event to learn how to access services, volunteer, or support the FRC in other ways. Volunteer Counseling Interns Provide Valuable Services Citywide
Each year, Fremont Human Services Department’s Youth & Family Services (YFS) Division recruits dozens of graduate or post-graduate students in counseling, clinical psychology, or social work from local colleges and universities as clinical interns to provide specialized mental health counseling to hundreds of Fremont children and families.
Under the supervision of a licensed YFS clinical supervisor, YFS interns serve children and families with a wide range of problems, ranging from anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, bullying, behavior problems, truancy, alcohol and drug use, parent divorce/ separation, undiagnosed developmental or learning disorders, and immigration adjustments. The interns provide children with support through individual counseling, and may help them build social and life skills in small group counseling sessions. Our counseling interns contribute more than 4,700 in-kind direct service hours while working at a combination of Fremont Unified School District’s K-12 school campuses, YFS’ main clinic offices at the Family Resource Center, and the Fremont Police Department. These volunteer workforce services are valued at more than $700,000 annually.

Do you sometimes need childcare for just a few hours? Or need a backup when your regular provider is out sick? The FRC operates a drop-in, hourly childcare service for well children and it’s open to the public. At Discovery Cove, kids can participate in arts and crafts with caring adults for up to 12 hours a week. Call for reservations. ACCESS provides information, screening and referrals for Alameda County residents who need mental health and/or drug and alcohol treatment. ACCESS is answered by County licensed mental health clinicians Monday-Friday 8.30am to 5.00pm. After hours calls are returned by Alameda County Crisis Support Services. The telephone menu is in six languages: English, Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, and Cambodian. ACCESS uses a telephone interpretation service for additional languages and California Relay for persons who are deaf or hard of hearing. An Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services program.
