good reads

A guide to encouraging your child’s reading Hornsby library organises the children’s collection using the following levels going from the easiest at the bottom to the more challenging at the top. When your child starts independently reading, it is advisable to oversee their selections to make sure they are suitable for their reading and maturity levels. Children differ in their reading tastes, some may enjoy humorous stories others may like mysteries or animal stories. On the library website in the “For kids” section under “Good reads” is a list of different children’s genres with a variety of authors and series to tempt children’s reading tastes. These titles are directly linked to the library catalogue so that you can check availability. Staff at the libraries are available for any guidance in selection that you might need. Remember, a great way to encourage good reading habits in children is when they see their parents reading.
