The HSAS and SAHO Bargaining Teams have met May 20 and 21 and June 10 and 11. Additional dates have been scheduled for July 27, 28 and 29 and August 17, 18 and 19. The first four (4) days of meetings were devoted to reviewing one another’s proposal package and exchanging counter proposals. We are pleased to report SAHO has not put forward any significant take-aways, however, they have made it clear they must negotiate within the government’s mandate of 0%, 1%, 1%. As a result, proposals with financial implications will not be discussed until all non-monetary items are dealt with. We can report progress has been made on the following: ▪ Seniority calculation for standby hours ▪ Professional provisions ▪ Provision for those members who are disabled ▪ Language improvements to several non-monetary articles throughout the Collective Agreement including; disciplinary documentation, request for leaves of absence and access to the Federal Compassionate Care Benefit Program. Major issues that are contentious and where agreement is outstanding include; wage parity with nurses, classification issues, professional development, vacation leave, precepting students, Family Responsibility Leave, access to benefits for standby workers, meal and transportation allowances to name a few.
