HSASTENTATIVE AGREEMENT RATIFIED BY 80.7째/oOFTHOSEVOTING Membersof HSAShavevotedoverwhelmingly to ratifythe September 3, 1999,tentativecollectiveagreementbetween HSASandSAHO. Thebargaining teamsmetto signthecontracton December 6, 1999,and mostprovisionshavenow takeneffect. Of2055ballotsmailedout,1411or 68.7%werereturned.Resultswereasfollows: Acceptthetentativeagreement

Thehighvoterresponseandthebigmajorityvotingto accepttheagreement aregratifying. Thankyouto thoseHSASmemberswhotookthe timeto attenda contractinformation meetingandvoteon the tentative agreement.Specialthanksare due to the HSASBargaining teamand Execut ive Councilfor their effortsin seeingthis dauntingtaskthroughto completion.Thanksalsoto thescrutineers for the votecount,DebbyBoyes,TerryDodds,Donna Harris,TedMakeechak , TimSlatteryandDellaYaroshko . Theagreement coversall members in theprovincefor thefirsttime, replacing16previousagreements that memberswere workingunder.It providesfor a 2%generalwageincreasein eachof threeyearsandmajor benefitimprovements for most members.Specialwageadjustments providefor the substantial achievement of paritywithineachprofession , as well as addressrecruitment andretentionissuesin thoseprofessions whereshortageshavebeenidentified.Otherareasin which thereweresignificantgainsincludevacation,FamilyResponsibility Leaveandcarallowance. A copyof thenewcollectiveagreement, alongwiththeunion'sconstitution, willbe mailedto eachmemberearlyin the new year. SAHOhas indicatedthat,providedthereare no majorglitches , the retroactivepay will be paidout by the end of March,2000. SAHOalsotellsus theyareworkingto makechangesin theirpayrollsystemto haveournewratesin place bythemiddleof January.
