As you know, our provincial collective agreement expires March 31, 2004. In order to provide HSAS members an opportunity for input into what is negotiated, your Bargaining Committee: 1. mailed each HSAS member a bargaining survey and 2. held thirty-three (33) meetings throughout the province. Thank you to those members who took the time to complete a survey and attend a meeting. From the input received, the Bargaining Committee will be developing a proposals package which will be presented to Executive Council for approval. As required by Article 31.02 of the HSAS/SAHO Collective Agreement, HSAS has served SAHO formal notice to renegotiate our agreement. Bargaining will likely commence sometime in April 2004. Subsequent to the completion of the last round of provincial bargaining the government appointed Robert Shaw to report and make recommendations on employer-side collective bargaining in healthcare. As a result of the government adopting his recommendations, the SAHO bargaining team will see a representative from government on their negotiating committee. Additionally, we have recently been informed that SAHO has hired David Wartman, a management consultant from Calgary, to serve as their spokesperson at the bargaining table.
