Nagrada je pripala 18-godišnjoj talijanskoj biciklistici Letiziji Paternoster, a u konkurenciji su još bili i češki strijelac Filip Nepejchal, grčki jedriličar Dimitrios Papadimitriou, mađarska plivačica Reka Nagy i turski džudaš Mihrac Akkus. Prema pravilniku, najboljem mladom športašu/športašici Starog kontinenta u ovome izboru pripada i novčana nagrada od 15 000 eura.

Olimpijski čelnici kod predsjednice RH Kolinde Grabar Kitarović Olimpijski čelnici MOO-a, ANOC-a, EOO-a i HOO-a, Thomas Bach, šeik Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, Janez Kocijančič i Zlatko Mateša, bili su na prijamu kod hrvatske predsjednice Kolinde Grabar Kitarović. Prijamu su nazočili i direktor Olimpijske solidarnosti MOOa i zamjenik glavnog direktora MOO-a za odnose s olimpijskim pokretom Pere Miro, te asistentica u Uredu predsjednika MOO-a Marina Baramia. U Uredu predsjednice na Pantovčaku razgovaralo se o važnosti bavljenja športom te o očekivanjima nakon zasjedanja 46. skupštine EOO-a u Zagrebu.

Partnerstvo HOO-a s EOO-ovim EU uredom Hrvatski olimpijski odbor sklopio je ugovor o partnerstvu s EOO-ovim EU-uredom u Bruxellesu, koji bi trebao doprinijeti boljoj participaciji hrvatskih projekata u projektima EU fondovima. Čelnik EOO-a Janez Kocijančič tim je povodom naglasio da je potpisivanje ovog ugovora između HOO-a i EOO-a od velikog značenja za sveukupni hrvatski šport i HOO s kojim je dosadašnja suradnja bila odlična. Ugovor je u ime HOO-a potpisao glavni tajnik Josip Čop koji je kazao da je HOO spreman za nove izazove u području europskih projekta i planova koji bi oblikovali zajedničku europsku politiku športa, posebice što su iskustva HOO-a u participaciji EU fondova uznapredovala organiziranjem zasebnog odjela za to područje.

HOO hosts the 46th General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees At European Olympic Committees’ 46th General Assembly, held in Zagreb in cooperation with the Croatian Olympic Committee, Janez Kocijančić from Slovenia was elected European Olympic Committees’ President for the mandate period until 2021. The two-day session was abundant in presentations of upcoming multi-sports events, including the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang 2018, Tokyo Olympic 2020, Winter Olympics Beijing 2022 and Paris Olympics 2024. The European Olympic Committees’ leadership reported, through video presentations, on the performances at this year’s multi-sports events under the auspices of the EOCs, European Youth Olympic Festival Hungarian city of Győr and its Winter edition in Erzurum, Turkey. The Winter EYOF, which will be held in Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina) in 2019 and Summer EYOF in Baku (Azerbaijan), were also presented and the participants of the assembly also received a report from the XII. Games of Small European States held this year in San Marino. Successful organization of the first European Games in Baku in 2015 and preparations for European Games in Minsk in 2019, coordinated by the President of the Croatian Olympic Committee Zlatko Mateša, were also discussed. The President of the European Olympic Committees Janez Kocijančič announced a more innovative competition system in certain sports such as athletics, as well as covering a larger number of host cities. The Assembly, held at the hotel Westin, was attended by President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach, President of the Association of National Olympic Committees Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, Director of the IOC’s Olympic Solidarity and IOC’s Deputy Director General for Relations with the Olympic Movement Pere Miro, with a special guest - the most successful Croatian athlete Janica Kostelić who now holds the position of State Secretary for Sports. The host of the next, the 47th General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees in 2018 will be the city of Marbella (Spain). European Olympic Committees’ appointments and special acknowledgments to Croatian Olympic champions In the electoral part of the Assembly, besides the President Janez Kocijančić (Slovenia), the following members of the European Olympic Committees’ Executive Committee were elected: Vice President Niels Nygaard (Denmark), Secretary General Raffaelle Pagnozzi (Italy), Treasurer Kikis Lazarides (Cyprus) and members Hasan Arat (Turkey), Alejandro Blanco (Spain), Jean-Michel Brun (France), Spyros Capralos (Greece), Daina Gudzineviciute (Lithuania), Liney Rut Halldorsdottir (Iceland), Andrzej Krasnicki (Poland), Jozef Liba (Slovakia), Peter Mennel (Austria), Zlatko Mateša (Croatia), Bill Sweeney (United Kingdom) and Đorđe Višacki (Serbia). EOC awarded to Croatian Olympic Committee’s President Zlatko Mateša the EOC’s Order of Merit and to the State Secretary for Sports Janica Kostelić a special EOC’s recognition for promoting the Olympism. Piotr Nurowski award At the EOC’s gala evening, the award Piotr Nurowski that bears the name of former Polish tennis player and President of the Olympic Committee tragically killed in an airplane accident in 2010, was presented to the Best Young European Athlete. According to the votes of the EOC’s Assembly members, it was 18-year-old Italian cyclist Letizia Paternoster in competition with five male and female athletes the Czech shooter Filip Nepejchal, Greek sailor Dimitrios Papadimitriou, Hungarian swimmer Reka Nagy and Turkish judoka Mihrac Akkus. According to the Ordinance the best young male athlete / female athlete of the Old Continent in this election will also receive a reward of EUR 15,000. Olympic leaders visiting the Croatian President Kolinda Grabar Kitarović Olympic Heads of International Olympic Committee, Association of National Olympic Committees, European Olympic Committees and Croatian Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, Janez Kocijančić and Zlatko Mateša, were welcomed by the Croatian President Kolinda Grabar Kitarović.
