THE THIRD PLACE VISION

Repurposing unused infrastructure as people oriented public spaces that foster social engagements

“There is no logic that can be superimposed on the city; people make it, and it is to them, not buildings, that we must fit into our plans.” - Jane Jacobs PROJECT BRIEF Life without community has produced, for many, a lifestyle consisting mainly of a home-to-work-and-back-again shuttle. On examining the area of study, it was deduced that the impoverished quality of life was a product of diminishing social landscape, obsolete unused voids and lack of social engagement. ‘Quality third places' is conceptualized from considering our homes to be the first places, and our workplaces, the second. ‘The Third Place’ intends to provide opportunities for recreation and leisure to enhance livability, social cohesion and foster human interaction. The existing site has an uneven distribution of positive activity generators, despite the area being a TOD influence zone.
