J a z z at t h e m a n s i o n The Highlands Ranch Cultural Affairs Association is teaming up with the Highlands Ranch Mansion to once again bring Lannie Garret to Highlands Ranch. Join us for this outdoor concert on the mansion lawn.

Lannie Garrett and her Errand Boys of Rhythm Quintet will perform a collection of songs from the great American songbook, written by some of the greatest songwriters, from Gershwin to Arlen, Bacharach, to Beatles.

Ms. Garrett has that rare combination of popular and critical appeal. In addition to being named “Favorite Female Vocalist” several years in a row by The Denver Post readers, she garnered the top spot as favorite singer with the readers of 5280 Magazine. She’s worked with a diverse group of national entertainers including Bill Cosby, B.B. King, and Jay Leno. Lannie and her swinging big band even earned a standing ovation opening a show for her idol, the legend, Mr. Ray Charles.

2 nd a n n u a l T o u c h - a - T r u c k Get in gear and get to the HRCA’s 2nd Annual Touch-a-Truck on Saturday, August 17, 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Cherry Hills Community Church parking lot, 3900 Grace Blvd. in Highlands Ranch.

Touch-a-Truck is free to the public and for kids of all ages. Explore police cars, military vehicles, fire trucks, helicopters and much more! Let those imaginations power up as the drivers and operators explain how everything works and what role the vehicles play in our community.

Kids may have their faces painted, jump in bounce houses, or ride on a Monster Truck for an additional cost. Gourmet food trucks will roll in with tempting treats for adults and kids alike, so come hungry .

K E E P I N G YO U R PETS IN LINE

NEIGHBORHOOD IMPRESSIONS First impressions and the general appearance of neighborhoods are greatly influenced by the paint on your home along with the general maintenance of landscaping. The Community Improvement Department is busy surveying and doing follow ups on both issues during the summer season. Residents are required to maintain their property, both front and back yards.

Paint - Regular, timely painting of your home is good practice for more reasons than just to avoid receiving a paint notice from the HRCA. Nothing perks up a home like a fresh coat of paint. Just be sure to get the color approved before buying the paint. trees - As neighborhoods mature, diseased and dead tree issues become more prevalent. Regular pruning and removal of dying trees and shrubs are recommended.

Water - Dry conditions are prevalent throughout Colorado and it is important for all home owners to use water efficiently. Follow these tips to help you reduce the amount of water needed in your landscape: • Water in the late evening to early morning hours. Evaporation loss occurs at a higher rate during the daytime hours. Only water when your yard needs it, • Water the lawn no more than two to three times per week. Deep, infrequent watering promotes deep roots and drought-tolerant grass.

• Utilize horticultural best management practices: spring and fall aeration. Fertilize three times during the season: spring, summer, and fall (most important).

• Perform periodic checks of your irrigation system. Check for leaks and broken sprinkler heads and efficient coverage. Adjust your irrigation run times as the weather changes.

• Use the cycle and soak method to reduce wasteful runoff. Break your water times into five-minute cycles and wait an hour between each cycle to allow the water to soak in.

• Install a rain sensor. Rain sensors can be added to your irrigation controller and automatically shut off your sprinkler system when it rains.

Occasionally we need to remind our pet owners that as great as your dog may be, there are rules and regulations for using leashes and, there is no fairy that cleans up after your pets in the parks or on the streets.

Please be courteous and take a bag to clean up after your dog, and keep your pet on a leash at all times. Park rules and regulations can be found at highlandsranch.org/services/parks-openspace/park-rules/.
