Summer Activities in the Ranch The Backcountry Wilderness Area has organized summer activities that are sure to satisfy the nature lover in you and your family. Whether it is Outdoor Discovery Camps, horseback rides, hikes, or camping, there is something for everyone. HRCA’s full-time Day Camp and full-time Enrichment are theme-based and age appropriate with fun activities like swimming or field trips. Keep them busy with a halfday camp in art, pottery, drama, cooking, technology, and science. Cool off in the hot summer months with indoor and outdoor pool programs. Classes fill quickly for Learn-to-Swim and Coached & Competitive programs. Try scuba, snorkeling, or springboard diving! The HRCA has sports and fitness opportunities to keep your entire family active. Join an organized sports league, camp, or clinic. Get in shape with a drop-in group exercise, try a personal trainer, or race in our family-friendly Race Series. The Therapeutic Recreation Department offers programs and activities for individuals with special needs. The free Summer Concert Series is celebrating Highlands Ranch’s 35th Anniversary with That Eighties Band (80s) on June 9. Want more fun summer ideas? THerapeutic Recreation HRCA Therapeutic Recreation Programs are intended to enhance the quality of life of individuals with special needs. Programs are facilitated by Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists and/or qualified staff. We provide a quality and compassionate community-based environment for participants of all ages and abilities. Our goal is to challenge participants and support general independence, choice, self-determination, and self-confidence. We want each participant to enjoy recreation. We work toward social independence in a fun and safe environment, while encouraging a general sense of health, wellness, and improved quality of life. An upcoming program that helps children gain assurance and self-reliance is the iCan Bike program. More than just a bike-riding program for children with disabilities, it is a gateway of opportunity and achievement. This seemingly impossible task can typically be mastered in less than a week. Within days of learning to ride, many children exhibit independent behaviors for the first time. The Taste of highlands Ranch Don’t miss the most delicious event of the year! The Taste of Highlands Ranch is celebrating its 21st year of excellence in food, wine, beer, and spirits. This annual event showcases the best of what Highlands Ranch has to offer. Davidsons Liquors will provide samples of alcoholic beverages and over 30 area restaurants will show off their best cuisine. After the popularity of the outdoor beer garden in 2015, we will be adding more food from local restaurants and beers from local breweries, along with additional seating. Mint Edition will provide live music throughout the evening. Each year a silent auction benefiting a nonprofit organization rounds out “The Taste.” This year the Chamber of Commerce of Highlands Ranch will receive the entire proceeds of the auction. With the rest of the Shea Property in the Town Center being developed very soon, we were informed we should look at other venues for our fireworks and celebration. Consequently, we have found a new home and new partner with Douglas County at Highland Heritage Regional Park. Many of you know it as the location where we hold the summer concerts. We want to send Shea Properties a big thank you for their many years of support in allowing us to shoot fireworks off on their undeveloped land!

Community Improvement Services Have you ever wondered what the benefits of living in a covenant controlled community are? How does my property value compare to adjacent communities? Sometimes HOA’s get a bad rap for simply following and enforcing the rules set forth in their respective community declarations; however, the mainstay of any HOA should be to maintain and enhance the property values of a community. The rules and covenants of your HRCA are an asset to everyone involved and are overseen by a Board of Directors, elected by community delegates that have residents’ best interest in mind. Both commercial and residential property owners are subject to the covenants outlined in our community declaration. Citizen advisory committees are appointed annually by the Board of Directors to be actively involved in the HRCA’s Architectural Review and Compliance process. The Architectural Residential Committee (ARC) meets bi-monthly to review applications for residential home improvements and exterior modifications. The Development Review Committee (DRC) meets monthly to review commercial new builds and renovations. The Commercial Review Committee (CRC), meets weekly and reviews signage and Site Improvement Plans. Additionally, each committee perpetually reviews their respective guidelines and updates and revises annually if warranted. Prior to adoption of any rule or guideline, the Board of Directors vet the proposal to the community at large for comment. By and large, our community takes great interest and pride in the establishment of our covenants. As a property owner, you can always find a current copy of the Residential Improvement Guidelines (RIGs) or the Commercial Improvement Guidelines on our web site at www.HRCAonline.org/Covenants. It is always a good idea to scour the rules and covenants if you’re planning an exterior project.

Computer/Electronics Recycling & Paper Shredding Highlands Ranch Community Association is hosting a Computer/ Electronics Recycling event on Sunday, May 1, from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. in the parking lot at Highlands Ranch Parkway and Lucent Blvd. (Kaiser Permanente Bldg.) in Highlands Ranch. Electronic components contain materials that are very harmful to our environment. Techno Rescue will safely recycle the following for free: computers, keyboards, fax machines, telephones, cell phones, radios, printers, electronics, palm pilots, computer mice, laptops, stereos, televisions sizes up to 42˝ are $40 each. Relying on your personal shredder or using a regular waste disposal service may not ensure that sensitive information is being safely destroyed and can be more expensive than you think. XpresShred will securely shred your sensitive documents on site. Limit of 3 bags or small boxes of confidential paper. Residential only. No trash, phone books, or newspapers please. Suggested donation of $20 benefiting the Highlands Ranch Community Scholarship Fund and Highlands Ranch Cultural Affairs Association will be accepted on site.

Ladies’ fishing on the fly The Highlands Ranch Cultural Affairs Association teams up for the fourth year with the Cutthroat Chapter of Trout Unlimited to teach ladies ages 16 and older the art of fly fishing. There are two classroom sessions and a field trip. Expert Instructors lead this workshop that covers all of the basics of fly fishing: casting, reading the water, entomology, conservation, tying, knots, landing and releasing, and plenty of hands-on practice. JUNIOR SHOWDOWN TENNIS TOURNAMENT While other sports can provide great health benefits and some can promote mental and emotional growth, none can compete with the sport of tennis in delivering overall physical, mental and emotional gains to those who play! All these benefits make tennis the ideal sport for kids to learn and have fun playing! What parent wouldn’t want their children to have these advantages through their growing years? HRCA has always been an enthusiastic promoter of tennis as proven through its extensive youth programming and junior tournaments. This year the 16th Annual Junior Showdown Tournament will be held at Northridge Tennis Pavilion May 19 - 22. This USTA sanctioned junior challenger tournament is for ages 10 & under, 14 & under, and 18 & under. Camp Central! This summer we are offering a variety of fun camps for children of all ages and interests! Full-day Day Camp (ages 6-12) and Enrichment Camps (ages 3-6) offer a great place for kids to spend their summer swimming, going on theme-based field trips like skydiving at iFly for the older kids and to Sky Zone for the younger kids in Day Camp, and engaging in fun art, sport and summer activities! These two programs run Monday-Friday from 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Art and Education camps are beginning to fill, so now is the time to get enrolled. Drawing, painting, jewelry making, and more will be part of the summer art camps and a series of Robotics, Engineering and Science camps are sure to challenge and delight your child, too! New camps like Challenge Island and Colorado Children’s Musical Theatre’s Annie production are also great considerations for your family. Backcountry Wilderness Area Horse Camps HRCA Backcountry Wilderness Area (BWA) offers Horse Camps with many options for campers who want a horse camp experience where they can do more than just ride. Horseback riding camps cater to youth and teen horse enthusiasts wishing to eat, breathe, and sleep horses. BWA’s dynamic kids’ horse camp programs feature Western riding lessons, horse care, safety, anatomy, trail rides, and more. We have two on-site riding rings, plus access to miles of trails in the beautiful Backcountry Wilderness area. The camp environment is designed to promote success, self-confidence, and selfesteem for every single camper. We limit our enrollment to ensure that every camper is known by name and who they are as individuals. All of our programs combine skill development, challenges and fun while stressing safety, participation, and sportsmanship. We create a summer experience that is unforgettable!
