Making Holiday Memories Close to Home Dear HRCA Community, The holiday season invites us to reconnect and make memories with the people who matter most. Here in Highlands Ranch, you can find that holiday spirit close to home, without stretching your budget. As this month’s cover story reminds us, our recreation centers offer much more than a place to exercise. They are places to discover a hobby, learn a skill and connect with neighbors. Consider trying a new program with a friend or family member. A pottery, art or cooking class could spark a new interest or inspire a handmade gift.

With free and low-cost options just miles from your home, these experiences offer another reminder of the value of HRCA membership. Your quarterly assessments help support the programs, places and connections that make Highlands Ranch a wonderful place to live. I encourage you to explore our holiday offerings and choose something new to enjoy together. Sometimes the most meaningful moments are the simplest: an evening of music, a shared activity or a familiar face at a community celebration.

There are also plenty of ways to celebrate throughout our community. Browse the HRCA Arts Pottery Sale and Holiday Gift Fair for thoughtful gifts while supporting artists and vendors. Enjoy the magic of Nutcracker Highlights, settle in for a Holiday Jazz Music performance or experience a Classical Concert at the Mansion. Let Sounds of the Season put you in a festive mood. Participate in Holiday House decorating and share your creativity with the community. Celebrate the Winter Solstice at Backcountry Base Camp and enjoy a seasonal gathering outdoors. And make time for our Hometown Holiday celebration, an opportunity to gather, enjoy the festivities and build traditions with family and friends.

On behalf of our entire HRCA team, I wish you and your family a joyful holiday season filled with connection. My best, Mike Bailey

CEO/General Manager Highlands Ranch Community Association

More Than A Workout: Discover What’s Inside HRCA Recreation Centers Continued from page 1. For those ready to get creative, art classes offer opportunities to explore drawing and other visual arts, while pottery programs introduce hand building and wheel throwing. Whether developing your skills or returning to a favorite hobby, creating something with your own hands can be deeply satisfying. Music, dance and drama programs provide additional avenues for expression, helping participants build confidence and enjoy learning something new. HRCA also supports preparing for the future at different stages of life. SAT/ACT preparation helps teens build readiness for college entrance exams. Financial seminars give adults opportunities to learn about saving for retirement, while education about wills and living trusts helps families consider how to protect their wishes and provide for loved ones. Each stage brings important decisions, and learning is a valuable first step toward feeling more informed and prepared.

Practical skills matter, too. Cooking classes introduce techniques and recipes to recreate at home, while self-defense and health and safety classes offer tools for everyday life. STEM classes, preschool enrichment, Creative Kids programs and cotillion support younger learners as they develop curiosity, creativity and social skills. Adults seeking flexibility can explore instructor-led online courses from home. These experiences also create opportunities for connection. Taking a class with a friend, meeting neighbors who share your interests or encouraging a child’s emerging talent can make learning especially rewarding. Across all four HRCA recreation centers, there is truly something for everyone. Your assessments help make these community resources possible. Visit HRCAonline.org and explore the Activity Guide for program descriptions, locations, schedules, fees and registration details. Discover a new interest and enjoy more of what your HRCA membership offers today.

ADD TO YOUR CALENDAR 6

Winter Is Coming — Is Your Home Ready? If you’ve lived in Colorado for any length of time, you know that Mother Nature doesn’t always follow the calendar. One day we’re enjoying sunshine and mild temperatures, and the next we’re reaching for snow shovels and winter coats! As we head into November, now is a great time to give your home’s exterior a little attention before winter settles in. A Little Prevention Goes A Long Way Colorado’s winter weather can be tough on our homes. Freezing temperatures, snow, ice and strong winds have a way of turning small maintenance issues into bigger problems. Fortunately, a few simple steps now can help avoid costly surprises later. Start by taking a walk around your home and looking for things that might need attention: • Gutters and Downspouts: Clear accumulated leaves and debris to help melting snow drain properly and away from your home’s foundation. • Fences and Gates: Check for loose boards, damaged posts or gates that don’t close properly. Winter winds and heavy snow can make existing problems worse. • Exterior Surfaces: Look for deteriorating caulking, peeling paint, loose trim or damaged siding. Addressing these small issues can help prevent moisture intrusion and further deterioration. • Doors and Windows: Inspect weatherstripping and seals to help keep warm air inside and cold drafts outside. • Outdoor Fixtures: Disconnect garden hoses, prepare exterior faucets for freezing temperatures, and check that outdoor lighting and handrails are secure and functioning properly.

Maintaining our homes doesn’t always require major renovations or significant expense. Sometimes, it’s the small things we take care of today that make the biggest difference tomorrow. One question homeowners frequently ask is whether exterior maintenance requires approval from the Architectural Review Committee (ARC). Routine maintenance and repairs that restore existing materials and appearances, without changing the original design, may not require ARC approval. However, projects that alter your home’s exterior appearance (including paint colors), materials or configuration may require approval. If you’re unsure, the HRCA’s Residential Improvement Guidelines is a valuable resource, and our Community Improvement Services team is always available to help answer questions before you begin a project. A little preparation before winter’s next big storm can help protect your investment, prevent unnecessary repairs, and keep Highlands Ranch looking its best throughout the year. From all of us at Community Improvement Services, we wish you a safe and enjoyable start to the winter season!
