Welcome to the Capital Stud Auction - December 2025
The past year has been one of growth, achievement, and evolution; it’s a reflection of our continued pursuit of excellence and the dedication of everyone who forms part of the Capital Stud story.
Over the last twelve months, we’ve watched our 2024 Auction graduates begin their competitive journeys with outstanding promise, while several of our more experienced alumni have made their presence felt abroad. Capital Magic Boy is excelling in Europe under Ronnie Healy; Thomas van Rijckevorsel and Capital My Lady add to their growing list of achievements with wins on European soil; and Capital Night Star continues to develop under Nayel Nassar in the United States.
While these successes remind us of how far the Capital programme has come, our focus remains firmly on what lies ahead - on nurturing the next generation of world-class sporthorses. From the foals at foot on the pastures of Summerhill Equestrian, to the talented young horses offered in this Auction, and ultimately to their performances on the global stage, each step reflects the Capital Stud vision in motion.
Henning’s unwavering commitment to breeding horses of exceptional quality, temperament, and scope continues to shine through. This December 2025 Capital Stud Auction Collection exemplifies our mission: to produce athletes capable of competing - and winning - anywhere in the world. Each year, our horses surpass expectations, and as our Auction graduates continue to establish themselves in the 1.50m classes across South Africa and beyond, we look forward to watching this new generation follow in their footsteps.

As always, the well-being of our horses comes first, and as such we are limiting the number of try-out sessions available and maintaining our horses on strict individual schedules, with rest days.

Capital Stud has a full vetting with X-Rays available for each sporthorse on Auction. All vettings and X-Rays were completed by Dr Mike Ross.
It is advised that all vettings are viewed before the 28th of November. X-Rays and reports can be arranged through Dr Mike Ross directly on 011 468 3100. These vettings will be available for viewing at the Auction where buyers can consult with Dr Mike Ross, via an online call, on Auction Day.

Henning’s vision for Capital Stud has always been to provide South Africans with a quality of sporthorse commensurate with that seen on the international stage. He invests only in the best bloodlines in both his stallions and mares, and his pairings are carefully formulated with the goal of breeding ‘the ultimate sporthorse’.
The showjumping sport has evolved at a rapid rate over the past decade, particularly in Europe. This has necessitated breeders of modern showjumpers to adapt accordingly. Whereas heavier types with scope to burn were winning the classes ten to fifteen years ago, this has all changed with the advent of lighter poles, more technical courses and a huge emphasis on time.
Henning Pretorius, with his stud based in Europe, has been following and replicating these trends in his breeding for several years, and the rewards of this visionary approach are starting to become apparent on the showjumping tracks here. Henning continues to acquire stallions and mares of the best quality from Europe, and his young stallions and mares embody the requirements of the modern sport.

Under Nicole Horwood, this ‘bred in the purple’ stallion had begun to establish himself in the 1.35m classes, before heading to breeding duties. Forged from the finest bloodlines it is no surprise that he is making his presence felt in the showjumping arena. In Nicole’s words, “Cornetblue has insane rideability –he’s adjustable and balanced with an exceptional mouth. His nature is amazing. He reminds me very much of Capital Colnardo – he’s intelligent, efficient and fast. This is a very exciting horse.”
With this combination of bloodlines featuring three of the top seven Black-Type percentage stallions in the world, it is no surprise that Cornetblue’s foals have left all who’ve seen them awestruck. They each have the stamp of their father, and the team are ecstatic about the quality he is passing onto his offspring.

Full brother to top mare Albfuhren Paille
Figaro is a stallion of the future and certainly one to look out for in the showjumping arena. He was purchased at the Fences Auction as a foal. He is sired by Kannan GFE and out of a Dollar Du Murier mare, Miloust d’Isigny. Figaro is the full brother to top mare Albfuhren Paille, who partnered with Steve Guerdat to win the Longines FEI World Cup held in Las Vegas in 2015. Capital Figaro’s first offspring were born in 2019, and this is our first time offering them on Auction. The team are thrilled with his progeny and look forward to seeing these genetics rewrite the future of sporthorse breeding.

An exceptional stallion by Verdi
Capital Impossible is an exceptional stallion by the WBFSH ranked number 12 stallion Verdi, out of the illustrious Kicky Queen. He is the half-brother to Zangersheide approved stallion, Tyson, with both sharing Kicky Queen as their dam. Tyson was selected as a first reserve for the London Olympics. Kicky Queen is also the mother of Moeen, who competes in the 1.60m classes internationally. Capital Impossible is currently competing at Grand Prix level, now under Rainer Korber. The best is still to come from this stallion in the form of his offspring which we are proud to offer in this Collection.

Capital Qorland is the son of Corland VDL and Zinnia I. Zinnia I is the mother to Capital Levubu, Capital Pretorius, and Capital New Star – this is a true stellar lineage. With genetics like these, it is no surprise that his striking looks come with talent and a temperament to match. He is demonstrating great promise for the future under James Lowe.
