10 things to
STOP doing in 2026 BY M AT T WEEK S
This year, it’s time to try something different. Too many businesses focus on chasing the latest thing. But this year, why not make your resolution an addition by subtraction? Here’s a list of 10 bad habits you should strive to break in 2026.
1.
Stop Doing Digital Wrong Websites used to function as digital brochures, but that era has passed. Today’s consumers search phrases like “smoke shops near me” to read reviews, learn store hours, and scout specific products. To convert those searches into customers, keep your digital information up to date and easily accessible. Don’t let the AI crawlers deliver outdated material to potential buyers. While you’re at it, don’t overthink your socials. Commit to a regular posting pattern that showcases new products and fun vibes. Take a picture of a hot coffee on a frosty morning behind the counter. Show employees unboxing new glass pieces. Congratulate a raffle winner. Whatever you do, add music. Copy the premise of Nike ads: your goal should be to stay on your customers’ minds, not sell a specific item. Be sure to hashtag your posts to gain traction on algorithms

and searches. If you’re old and out of touch, hand the reins to your Gen Z staffer. Offer them the title of Social Media Strategist if they can hit a new threshold, like follower count or engagement.
2.
Stop Treating Wholesale Reps as Order-Takers It’s easy to sleep on distributors. Ordering new products can feel like a drag, but that complacency leads to a dull stockroom. Instead, take a cue from our boldest and baldest founding father. The Ben Franklin Effect works like this: When you ask someone to do you a favor, they can’t help but like you a little bit more. Put that tool in your psychological bag of tricks and ask your rep to help you think through a problem. Nurture that relationship by asking for advice and sharing your challenges. Soon, you’ll be the first to know about new products, promos, and industry trends.
3 4. 5. 6.
Stop Overstuffing Shelves We get it: small stores have it rough. But instead of tucking product into every nook and cranny, follow the guidance of professional real estate agents and stage your store by focusing on flow. Give customers space to move about and examine your wares. A tightly packed shop feels intimidating, robs the joy of discovery, and makes locating products harder. Resolve to reduce clutter, highlight your best products, and give your store a better sense of space. Stop Failing to Train Staff Repeat business grows from great experiences. Smoke shop customers want guidance and community. Newcomers need help navigating unfamiliar flavors and products. Experienced users enjoy trading insights with staffers who seem knowledgeable and friendly. Taking the time to train up new hires pays off with customer loyalty and employee retention. Genuine guidance makes customers feel better about buying. Stop Avoiding Compliance Conversations There’s a reason CEOs read the newspaper. It’s not enough to comply with regulations that have passed. The best shops anticipate change and plan for its arrival. Everyone has heard stories of stores that were shut down for asinine issues. Don’t let laziness cause a closure. Keep abreast of local, state, and federal crackdowns. Keep your workers informed, your products labeled correctly, and your eyes peeled. Slow down purchase orders before new laws knock your products off the shelves. Stop Ignoring Margins You don’t need an MBA to run a smoke shop, but a little business acumen is a smart complement to gut feelings. The most overlooked problem business owners face is not knowing how they’re making money. It’s easy to spot which products sell the best, but the best owners understand which items keep their shops afloat. That means tracking the margins. This year, resolve to get serious about spreadsheets. You won’t be the first owner who’s surprised to see where their money comes from. A small investment in profitability metrics today will make tomorrow’s decisions easier.
7. 8.
Stop Skipping Community Engagement When your customers aren’t in your store, do you know where they are? Smoke shop patrons can be found at farmers markets, music festivals, midnight movies, NASCAR watch parties, and more. But wherever your group goes, that’s where you need to be, too. Sponsor an event, give away T-shirts, offer samples, press some flesh. There’s an old saying in advertising: nobody notices a commercial until they’ve seen it five times. Make sure your name travels farther than the signage on your storefront. Engagement doesn’t stop at the sidewalk, either. Chat with customers, start a loyalty program, and sponsor a giveaway for followers on your socials. Stop Relying Only on Legacy Products People will always need new disposables and glass pieces. But 2026 could be the year your customers discover a new favorite. Cultivate curiosity by stocking innovative options, like hemp beverages and functional mushrooms. Encourage staff to try the latest wares and share their experiences with regulars. Toss in a new product with a big order. Offer a discount to folks on the fence about discovering something new. Spread the word about new stuff on social media, and watch new customers roll in. Continued on pg. 28 JA NUA RY 20 26

9. 10.
Stop Neglecting Store Atmosphere It’s time to start thinking of your store as a living being that changes with the seasons. Think about the window displays on Fifth Avenue: fresh décor brings new energy. Embrace the candy hearts, the Jack-o-Lanterns, the bunny eggs, and the graduation caps. Approach your shop’s atmosphere like weather: it’s only interesting when it’s changing. Even something simple, like a chalk sandwich board outside your shop, can add variety and personality. Don’t forget to pipe in some pleasant background music and rig lighting that’s bright but not abrasive. Stop Thinking “One Size Fits All” Marketing Works Marketing means reaching customers—all of them. It’s easy to think of smoke shop customers as a monolithic entity that all value the same things. But that line of thinking excludes vast numbers of patrons. Sort your customers into groups (repeat buyers, tourists, locals, soccer moms, etc.) and track their behavior. After a few weeks, you’ll begin to understand your customer demographics on a deeper level, allowing you to create targeted marketing campaigns.

Practical tips for better r e s u lt s These days, everything comes down to good marketing. While most shop owners didn’t get into the business to make ads, effective promotion has become integral to modern business. Unfortunately, it also requires a separate skill set. You don’t need to become a marketing maven to be effective. If advertising is a mix of art and science, there’s no reason you can’t get the science right. Here’s a guide to mastering the practical aspects of marketing, built to help you wring the most value out of your advertising dollar.
Print Don’t sleep on physical media. Today’s consumers are accustomed to scrolling right past ads on their phones. Many people, especially those in the countercultural space, have embraced analog technology. And it’s not strictly record players and film cameras. For those exhausted by the barrage of digital money grabs, a print piece feels not only welcome but interesting. Big city print shops have reported an uptick in real-world advertising projects for the last six months. Window posters announcing sales can lure in passersby. Inviting half-pagers in the local alt-weekly are magnets for counterculture attention. But for all its retro cool, real-world signage doesn’t operate the way it did 20 years ago. Modern physical marketing has been reborn in the language and attitude of the internet. Printed ads shouldn’t look like online ads, but they shouldn’t look like old print ads, either. They need to include QR codes, web addresses, and Insta handles. To get the best results, start with a picture. High-quality visuals need high-quality image files. Even though your JPEGs may look fine online, printing requires higher resolutions. Professional-grade pieces that can be held in your hand (such as product packages, magazines, labels, stickers) must show fine detail, which means they should have a resolution of 300 DPI (dots per inch). For wallmounted materials, such as posters or large photo prints, 250 DPI is fine. Extra-large displays that customers will see from far away need less DPI; billboards require just 50 DPI, while banners will look crisp at 125.
Importantly, DPI can’t be scaled up. A small image with a 300 DPI resolution can’t be resized to make it bigger. For big projects, you need extra-large images. To determine just how big you can go, divide the image’s pixel count by its resolution. (For example, the printable h.) The best way to check your image’s DPI is to search for “resolution” in your photo editing software. Choose colors wisely. Color schemes convey the emotion and tone of your collateral, but they can also wreak havoc at the printer. If you’re designing your print ads on your computer, be sure to switch your color settings to CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black). This ensures the colors you see on screen will match what comes out of the printer.
It’s a good idea to keep your logo or store name in a familiar font and look to hardcode it in consumers’ minds. But the colors of individual ads simply need to work together. If you don’t trust your eye, online style guides can help you pick complementary colors. File format matters. While you may not notice a difference between how an image’s format affects its look, rest assured that a printer can. Save your files in PDF, TIFF, or EPS formats to ensure that your file won’t experience a drop in quality due to file compression.
Web Work Even though print demands seem ludicrous next to the needs of digital advertising, it’s not enough to simply blast your print ads out on social media. Consumers experience the web differently from print, and smart marketers take advantage of the web’s unique features to get the most out of their investment. Effective web marketing requires a different set of considerations, many of which stand in opposition to print needs. Think dynamic. Unlike the fixed size of a print piece, digital collateral must fit a variety of screen shapes and sizes. Online collateral needs to look equally good on phones, tablets, and desktop monitors. Most digital images will look crisp at 96 DPI on most modern hardware. However, if you’re creating pieces for in-store TVs or trade show monitors, you’ll want to use images with 150 DPI. Fonts that work. For any text that’s not part of an image, you should use “web safe” fonts. Those are standard typefaces that exist across all browsers. They include Arial, Times New Roman, Georgia, Verdana, Courier New, and Tahoma. Sticking with these fonts ensures that every user will see your copy the same way. If you use a niche typeface, such as Comic Sans or Papyrus, consumers may not be able to read it. There is a workaround, however. If you love the look of whimsical lettering, you can simply embed your font in an image and save the entire piece as an image file to bypass this issue. Consider colors carefully. Unlike print, most digital screens use the RGB (red, green, blue) color model. Be sure that your settings reflect that. Most design programs will naturally start in RGB mode, but it’s a good idea to double-check. Design your online pieces in RGB to ensure you’ll see the same hues that show up on your customers’ phones. Take advantage of the medium. Web ads provide options for interactivity, motion, and sound. The best ads combine any two of those three. Videos with sound are great for catching the attention of bored scrollers, but turn off busy folks who are simply passing a few minutes in line at the grocery store. Test and retest. Don’t expect technology to function correctly; ensure that it does. If you’re experimenting with a new medium, like TikTok, check how your ads work on a computer, tablet, and phone before launching them into cyberspace. If possible, check the difference across different operating systems and browsers. Good marketing comes from smart decisions, not a penchant for creativity. It’s something everyone can master. You already know the reputation you’re working toward. Advertising is one more way of building a brand. Good marketing is, and has always been, simply good business.

IN cannabis The Weight of 45 Years: Asia Cannario’s Story of Survival and Advocacy BY E MI LY LONG
For Asia Cannario, the War on Drugs is especially personal. Like many people, she started using cannabis as a teenager and got into selling cannabis in her 20s in Baltimore, Maryland, long before any legalization efforts grew teeth. “It really wasn’t okay back in the day when I was growing up,” she says. Her life changed entirely in 2002 when she was arrested for selling marijuana after falling victim to a deep undercover sting operation. All of a sudden, she was facing up to 45 years in prison. “My first thought was, ‘What do you mean, 45 years? This is just weed!’” Asia recalls. When the cops served Asia her papers in jail, she remembers seeing the two undercover cops who she’d thought were her friends for the past six months. “They couldn’t even look me in the eye. The whole thing was out of a movie,” she says. With the help of some hometown connections and a good lawyer—Asia’s neighbor, Linda Tripp was a prominent player in the Monica Lewinsky and Bill Clinton case—Asia ultimately got off with only one felony charge and three years of supervised probation as a result of the 18-month

trial. “The weight of that possible sentence has always stuck with me,” she says. “I told myself, ‘If I don’t go to jail, I’ll never waste this.’” Years later, when the Farm Bill was passed in 2018, legalizing CBD in the United States, Asia knew it was time to make good on that promise. “I’d just been waiting for that kind of moment to step into the light,” she says. Asia has a passion for educating people about cannabis and advocating for the plant. She uses her background in entertainment and marketing to blend cannabis culture, art, and fashion together. One of her signature products is the bud chain, a necklace with a pendant made of real, colorful hemp bud, which she creates in collaboration with a medical patient who hand-crafts each necklace. “We’re recycling the plant and raising awareness at the same time,” she says.
“It’s educating people without anyone realizing they’re being educated,” Asia says. “It’s genius.
But her work doesn’t stop at creating pretty products — even though they are great conversation starters — and she never takes her freedom for granted. “Even in the cannabis industry, I talk with people every day who don’t realize people are still locked up [in prison] for dime bags,” she says, noting that a friend who got arrested with similar charges is still in prison today. Education is a key component of her work, and she strives to uplift organizations helping cannabis prisoners, specifically the Last Prisoner Project and Freedom Grow. “I love what they’re doing,” she says. While Freedom Grow helps cannabis prisoners who are still incarcerated by sending them books and helping them send their moms flowers for Mother’s Day, the Last Prisoner Project offers legal intervention and direct advocacy support to help cannabis prisoners get home sooner. Always inspired by the intersection of art, justice, and cannabis education, Asia is especially excited about a new product from Vibes Rolling Papers called Release Papers, which not only burns well but also works to release the unjustly incarcerated. More than just rolling papers, each sheet features the name of an incarcerated person, the phone number of their parole board, a handy script that guides callers through the process of submitting a bid for a pardon, and a QR code to learn more. “It’s educating people without anyone realizing they’re being educated,” Asia says. “It’s genius.” Continued on pg. 44

Women in Cannabis
“A lot of people in the cannabis industry are really young and don’t understand the struggle,” Asia says. “I want to get down to the nitty-gritty things where it’s not so cute. Girl, you have no idea what we’ve been through.” Asia especially wishes people were more educated on the mental and physical benefits of cannabis, including how it interacts with our body through the endocannabinoid system. “Do you know how cannabis can unlock receptors in the brain and help you bring balance to your body?” she asks. “As far as the industry goes, we are failing at giving vital information. It’s not just about cool, cute products. We also need to be talking about the benefits of the plant. It’s about education and advocacy, too. I know what sells, but you can still add educational value.” In that vein, Asia is currently preparing to rebrand and relaunch some of her products, including rolling kits and Bud Crumb’s unique and beautiful jewelry. “I’m really excited for the next six months,” she shares. “We’re in the final steps of production to be fully ready to launch soon.” As part of this launch, Asia will donate a portion of her sales to Freedom Grow, and she is also dreaming of other ways to collaborate. She wants to keep raising awareness about the benefits of cannabis and the harm the drug war continues to inflict. “My company is made up of artists and entertainers,” she says. “In the next few years, I’d love to build an art council to really bring cannabis, education, and the arts together.” When asked where she wants to see the cannabis industry move, Asia’s answer is simple. “I want everyone out of jail,” she says. “That’s number one. the voyage is the destination
How Aaron Pavloff made Field Tryp an exclusive luxury event for big-time buyers and vendors. BY JI MMY WO HL Imagine it. You’re at a high-end resort in Key Largo, lounging by the pool, smoking a spliff while mingling with the top buyers and vendors in your industry. Some of you didn’t pay a dime to get here. Many of you paid a nice chunk of change, but it’s worth every penny. Or say you’re waking up at 5 a.m. in Jackson Hole, the crisp morning breeze getting your heart pumping. And you’re joined by twenty fellow event attendees, sharing fresh mountain air on a hiking trail and a ferry ride across a crystal lake. These are the moments you remember for the rest of your life, bonding you with people with whom you share a passion. They’re the times that business is a pleasure.
Welcome to Field Tryp.

The premier smoke/vape/cannabis/ accessories industry experience Field Tryp is the brainchild of Aaron Pavloff, a sales rep for Club 13 living in St. Augustine, Florida, who went to enough trade shows to dream of something better. He wanted to start a high-end event that would attract the top talent in the industry, a multi-day blowout where an even number of A-list buyers and vendors would make business connections as well as enduring relationships. “Products come and go, but people are the same,” says Pavloff, noting how products go in and out of style or get regulated in and out of existence. Instead of “speed dating” among people and products, he’d rather focus on building connections between individuals in the industry, which could last well beyond the lifespan of what they’re selling. And this is why, since early 2024, when he started Field Tryp, he’s held four events. For each one, he takes around 15 vendors and 15 buyers to beautiful locales in the tropics or mountains. Why such a limited number of attendees? “Less is more,” he says.
|
JA N UA RY 2 0 2 6
And even with a small-but-mighty list of attendees, he likes to keep things fresh. “The sites change. The concept is that if it’s a cold season, we go somewhere warm. If it’s a warm season, we go somewhere cooler. Traditionally, we’ve done mountains in the summer and a beach in the winter. The resort we’re going to this January is in Key Largo, Florida.” Pavloff explained that while it costs more to do the events in the US, there are risks in doing this in other countries. “We’ve chosen to do it in the States because we can guarantee due process,” he continued, describing how the laws in various nations that would be appealing to hold this event could be at odds with the kind of work they do.
Everyone wants to take the Tryp “I know a lot of people in the industry,” says Pavloff. “I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, and moved to Florida in 2012. I found my Club 13 job on Craigslist. I was their first outside hire. I worked with them through school and graduated in 2016. I’ve been with them this whole time, and it’s given me lots of exposure to many buyers.” His business partner, Ryan Howard, does much of the connecting with potential vendors. And his fianceé, Marilyn McArter, is responsible for the website, emails, logos, social media, and scheduling. This tight team is able to put together what Pavloff describes as a “wedding every six months, but all your guests are from this industry.” He cites his inspiration. “I’d been to many before, but I thought I could do it better, so I pulled out my Rolodex.” Once the word goes out announcing a new Field Tryp, there’s a lot of interest. Vendors are expected to pay up to $30k for a chance to interact with buyers who have at least ten stores, often many more, into the hundreds. “Buyers get premium treatment,” says Pavloff. “They don’t pay for anything. They get first-class flights, car services, food, drinks, and hotel. All on us. We want to take away worrying about the check. Just give them time to unspool. You can learn a lot about someone by hanging out with them for 45 minutes. But buyers are expected to buy, or at least explore vendors’ wares in good faith.”
A little bit of a love fest “You would be surprised, we’re all competitors, but the amount of love that you get when you do stuff like this is amazing. Some companies are competitors on paper, but we all compliment each other and respect what each other does.” Pavloff talks about how people who shouldn’t be allies–on paper–find easy friendship with each other at Field Tryp. They share a sense of common purpose. Continued on pg. 48 JA NUA RY 20 26

And he’s sure part of this camaraderie comes from the fact that it’s just plain fun. “You may have an hour-long meeting block, but you can go do it while taking a tiki boat ride, getting drinks, kayaking, snorkeling, lounging in the pool, relaxing in the hot tub, or smoking a joint on the beach. Some meetings literally take place at the spa.”
A relaxing, profitable future Sound appealing? While Pavloff is hoping this event can make more money for itself, it has still been a great boon for his company and many others. The connections vendors and buyers have made with each other have “earned them serious loot” and made returning every time even sweeter. So next time you are thinking it might be great to get away for an expedition of hiking or catching some rays, sitting by a lake surrounded by moose and elk, or bobbing in the tropical waves, all while making memories and experiences, hit up Field Tryp for an invite. “If you are wise, you can capitalize on that.” Stay in the loop on future shows or learn more about Field Tryp’s mission by checking out their Instagram or website!

shop of the month With nearly 25 years of service in the state of Utah, Stogies has become a trusted name in the region and an iconic staple of The Beehive State. It’s become so popular that, according to Stogies’ general manager, Bry Jacobson, smokers often confuse other smoke shops in the area for the Stogies brand. But make no mistake; if it doesn’t have those familiar seven letters displayed out front, then it’s not part of the Stogies family. I recently sat down with Bry Jacobson to discuss the past, present, and future of Stogies, as well as the company’s unwavering dedication to keeping the counter culture alive, even in the face of strict regulations and ever-evolving standards. “We actively search for happy, friendly people to employ. We have a strong dedication to learning about our product. No matter what our customers are coming in for, we can make sure they’re leaving with the knowledge needed to confidently use that item,” Bry explained.
Building a Legacy Many residents in Utah are already familiar with the Stogies brand. They began with a single store in Orem in 2002, but quickly expanded to encompass five different retail locations throughout the state. Now, after a quarter century of business, Stogies is doing better than ever—even if they do still consider themselves a small mom-and-pop shop. “Customers often comment on our smaller pipe selection, but it’s only smaller because we don’t have a ton of duplicates,” Bry said. “We also have the freshest products in terms of tobacco and chew, which is hugely important to our customer base. Spanish Fork actually sells more chew than any other store in the entire state of Utah. We have the best prices, so it’s guaranteed to be fresh.” 58

Although medicinal cannabis is available in Utah, recreational use is prohibited throughout the state. Because of this, the majority of Stogies’ business still revolves around tobacco sales—including cigarettes, chew, and nicotine vapes. Stogies does sell pipes and other smoking accessories, all of which are clearly labeled for tobacco use only, but their biggest seller has always been cigarettes. “Our main product, from day one, has always been cigarettes,” Bry continued. “We don’t make any profit from them, but we sell more cigarettes than anything else. The next most popular item would be kratom. Kratom is a big item in Utah lately, but that’s also very heavily regulated with licenses and hoops to jump through. So we went from a handful of licenses per location to as many as 10.”
The Cost of Doing Business in One of the Most Conservative States Utah is regarded as one of the most conservative states in the US, so it’s not surprising to learn about the strict rules and regulations that stores like Stogies have to follow. “We jump through a lot of hoops,” Bry explained. “The products we carry have to be registered through the state of Utah. We have a license that allows us to sell that. In terms of hardware, in the state of Utah, although it is medically legal, it’s not actually legal to put fire to it. But we do carry devices for vaping, that you can vape flower, so we do sell devices for that. And that’s something we’ve always carried - pipes and vapes. We even carried the big tabletop vapes you used to see.” Despite their success, Stogies still has to compete with other stores in the area, some of which might not be following all the rules.
“We’re being hurt by a lot of our competitors by selling flavored vapes out of their backrooms. We strive to be better. Customers talk about things they bought at another location that we don’t know. Stogies has become a household name in Utah, so everyone thinks that all shops are a part of the Stogies brand.”
The More Things Change, the More They Stay the Same In most states, rules and regulations surrounding cannabis and smoking accessories tend to become more relaxed over time. For Utah, however, Bry doesn’t see things changing anytime soon. If anything, she sees local laws and restrictions getting even tighter in the future. “They will definitely become stricter. In the 20 years I’ve worked for Stogies, regulations have never become more relaxed,” Bry said. However, that won’t stop Stogies from celebrating their legacy and continuing to serve their customers. Not only have many of Stogies’ patrons become lifelong friends, but some of them have also had their own wares—from handmade art to semiprecious gems and stones—displayed on Stogies’ shelves. “At Stogies, we try to be as professional as unprofessionally as possible. We like to have a good time and be goofs, but we follow the rules while doing it.”

new culture shelf 10 Smart Adds for Your 2026 Retail Play BY KARE N MAI NA Here’s the play for 2026: be a culture hub, not a commodity counter. We are in the era of experiential marketing and businesses. This is the right time to pivot to selling more than rolling papers and pipes. The shops that will stand out this year are those that curate a lifestyle that blends adjacent scenes (wellness, alt-sports, design, and nightlife) and give people a reason to hang out, discover, and come back. You need to create a “destination retail” with experiences, demos, and community touchpoints layered into the floor plan. Why now? Consumer tastes are shifting fast toward wellness, sober-curious and functional drinks, and higherquality, values-driven goods. Basket-building is becoming the growth engine for innovative retailers. Jeremy Riviera puts it succinctly: “Expand your product range based on direct customer feedback, which lately indicates a strong desire for variety. Real-time adaptability will ensure your company can weather economic shifts while staying relevant.” Stocking beyond-the-obvious categories lets you ride those trends and increase attach rates per visit. Additionally, the legal landscape for hemp and cannabis remains twitchy, another reason to diversify and futureproof your mix. The 10 categories below are a blend of what’s moving in retail now and what’s poised to pop next. 68

10 Off-the-Beaten-Path Items 1. Functional Mushroom Beverages Functional mushroom beverages sit at the intersection of wellness and the sober-curious movement, delivering adaptogenic and nootropic blends for steady focus and energy. Stock brands like Odyssey Elixir and Mud\Wtr to tap psychedelic-adjacent curiosity without legal risk. Test small by trying one mini-fridge or shelf, 4–6 SKUs, and light sampling. Track the attach rate and sell-through. 2. Non-Alcoholic THC & Adaptogen Cocktails Non-alcoholic THC/adaptogen cocktails speak to the sober-curious nightlife and wellness trend. Pilot a mini-cooler with 4–6 SKUs from THC seltzer leaders like Happi and Cycling Frog, alongside adaptogenic standouts Kin Euphorics and De Soi. Market it as “night-in upgrades,” offer light samples, and keep an eye on local compliance. 3. Designer Incense & Aromatherapy Sprays Designer incense and aromatherapy sprays are popular for wellness, nostalgia, and ‘vibe curation.’
Curate elevated scents such as sandalwood and limited collabs alongside cult labels like Byredo, Bodha, and P.F. Candle Co. Test with one endcap, 4–6 SKUs. Validate demand with younger Gen Z renters, home-studio creatives, and apartment dwellers. 4. Glass Art Collectibles Micro-run glass art is the head-shop equivalent of a sneaker drop: limited, hyped, and downright collectible. Team up with local artists for pop-culture collabs, add QR-code provenance cards, and spotlight pieces near the countertop. Start small with 6–12 units, tier your pricing, have preorder lists, and create a buy-back safety net for first-time buyers. 5. Sleep & Recovery Supplements Sleep & recovery are booming, especially as more people adopt active lifestyles. Stock hemp-based blends with CBN plus magnesium or L-theanine in gummies and drink mixes. Start with trusted movers like Charlotte’s Web, Wyld, and CBDfx. Position them as wellness, not “stoner,” and be mindful of state rules and labeling. 6. Smart Storage Solutions Smart storage is the stash-box glow-up: app-locked safes and humidity-controlled cases that keep terps fresh and prying eyes out. Standout brands in this category include Keep’s app safe, Stori’s modular system and app, Cannador or CVault with Boveda packs, and luxe Apothecarry. 7. Adult Games and Party Gear Adult games are the hang-crew magnet. The cheeky card decks, dice, stoner Jenga, and ready-made party kits turn a smoke session into game night. Keep the price under $25 and offer premium merch at checkout. You can also bundle with cones or rolling trays. These are perfect impulse buys for groups, birthdays, and housewarming gifts. 8. Herbal Smoking Blends (Non-Cannabis) Herbal smoking blends are a mellow, nicotine-free alternative for ritual lovers. Who doesn’t enjoy some downward dog and bergamot?
Stock herbs such as lavender, damiana, and mugwort in loose and pre-roll formats. Label clearly as “nicotine-free and cannabis-free,” and merchandise near rolling papers or filters. Offer a sample sniff jar and bundle deals to convert sobercurious shoppers and those who are trying to quit nicotine. 9. Energy & Mood Gummies (Non-Cannabinoid) Energy & mood gummies are a functional-candy upgrade with no THC. Pair L-theanine with caffeine for soft productivity and focus; try saffron and 5-HTP for good vibes. Merchandise these at the checkout with some samples, and watch attach rates climb with sober-curious shoppers, afternoon slump survivors, and regulars. 10. Psychedelic-Inspired Fashion Accessories Psychedelic-inspired accessories are cheap, loud, and badge-worthy. You can stock socks, hats, enamel pins, and trippy patches that shout identity. Curate micro-collections with local artists, rotate seasonal drops, and display on a spinner rack by checkout. Test 20–40 units across price tiers, bundle with stickers or lighters, and entice impulse buys with “mix-and-match” deals.
Curate the Next Wave, Not the Last If 2026 has a retail mantra, it’s this: surprise them. Stock a few “didn’t-know-I-needed-it” gems and watch baskets swell. Let culture steer the mix: wellness, sobriety, psychedelics, nostalgia, and borrow heat from brands already pushing edges. To safeguard your cash flow, start small with 4–6 SKUs per bet, sample lightly, track attach and sell-through, then rotate fast. A well-crafted, story-led strategy, paired with the right products, can unlock new revenue streams and crown your shop as the neighborhood’s go-to culture hub.
