The Final Howe Enterprise Newspaper “When I was a kid, all of this was…” Over the years, I cared for and held many hands of generations as they have passed on. Similarly, I have watched many Texas small towns continue on to the next generation, into the hands of the future. Both experiences have shown the same thing- what lives on are the memories of those who love them. For multiple generations, The Howe Enterprise, has had the privilege of recording the history of this town: the beauties of highs and the grief of losses, the nail-biting and passionate sports culture, local businesses, festivals and so much more. Younger generations often never learn of history setting foot in a museum, or reading a historical book, they learn it through the stories and “old” pictures in your home. Howe, Texas is changing and a new generation is beginning. I hope you will all enjoy taking the time to value what it has been and influence what it will become. This is the last edition of The Howe Enterprise, as it is being laid to rest. However, the stories will go on. Truthfully, you all are the best journalists, historians, record-keepers and storytellers of Howe. What Howe has been, how it is remembered by future generations, and what it shapes into, are in your hands. Personally, I would like to thank all of you for allowing me to enjoy your town, document the last of The Howe Enterprise, and be a part of your lives. This has been a beautiful experience, and The Howe Enterprise was a long-standing legacy I have been honored to be a part of. To end, I would like to share the experience of one of your own, Michelle Carney, who covered pictures for your community, your children, your legacy of Howe, for 20+ years. She spoke in a last interview, of working with multiple generations of Howe children, coaches and community members who influenced her, and her love for Howe, Texas. She truly is full of Bulldog Pride, heart and soul. “I love working with the kids, I love the camaraderie with the coaches and kids. I am one of the “mom’s” on the sidelines, like the team mom and I have done that for 20 years (…) I felt a lot of support from the community (…) I am really grateful to The Howe Enterprise for all of the years of publishing my work and letting me work with y’all, it’s been fun.” In the following pages are some pictures of a few of my favorite current places in Howe and Dorchester. I encourage you to take your own as Howe changes, to forever preserve the lovely place that Howe is. The memory and pulse of Howe Bulldog pride continues on through each of you. My hope is that you will all continue to support each other in local business, friendship, and the community bonds that have made this town so special.
