Santa was in Howe over the weekend Recently our Studio42 crew has been contracted to broadcast Class 5A South Oak Cliff football in the playoffs. While at one of their practices, I noticed one slight difference between Class 3A and 5A. University of Oklahoma’s Offensive Line Coach Bill Bedenbaugh showed up at practice on Wednesday in Dallas. To my knowledge, he’s never stopped in Howe unless he really had to use the bathroom on Highway 75. After our exhausting trip to Abilene Friday to cover the semifinal game, we realized that we’ll be broadcasting the Class 5A-II state championship game this Saturday from AT&T Stadium. That’s pretty cool for a 4-man crew where three of us are Howe High grads. Dallas ISD hasn’t won a state championship since 1958. Bulldogs moving down in classification for 2022-2023 football seasons Howe ISD has perhaps been waiting for this announcement since December of 2015. The Bulldogs will be in Class 3ADivision II in football for the first time since the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

Howe Chamber to host BBQ fundraising dinner for Howe Volunteer Fire Department this Friday The Howe Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a BBQ fundraising dinner for the Howe Volunteer Fire Department this Friday Dec. 17 from 5:30—7:30 pm at Summit Gardens. The event is $15 per plate and can be a dine-in or carry-out. One purchase of a plate enters that person into a drawing for a Glock 43 donated
by Guns N More.
This is a red-letter day for the Howe Bulldogs football program and will make much more of an impact on any coach brought in as far as the level of competition within a game. The ability to compete in Division II as one of the biggest schools compared to Division I as one of the smallest schools is akin to a pretty girl competing for Miss Texoma as opposed to Miss Metroplex. Or it’s like getting in a fist fight with your younger brother as opposed to your older brother.

Those districts won’t be released until February. But projections can be made based on the new numbers. Whitewright will move down to Class 2A-Division I as they turned in 239 students, a drop of 38 kids. This created a scenario of a slide of Whitewright out and Howe into District 8.
If that plays out, Howe’s new district foes would be Gunter, Bells, Leonard, S&S, Blue Ridge, and Lone Oak. Every two years, the UIL (University Interscholastic League) will adjust the numbers (typically up by 5 -10 students) for rea-

Howe ISD begins search for new head coach It was a cold January day in 2018 when Zack Hudson announced he was leaving Howe for Mabank, Texas to be the next head coach of the Class 4A Panthers. A month later, Bill Jehling was hired as Howe’s 27th head coach. Hudson left after five seasons as Howe’s most successful coach
in terms of playoff victories with five (Jim Fryar had four in five seasons). He also ranked fourth all-time in wins with 30 behind Norman Dickey (51), Fryar (41), and Davey DuBose (34). Hudson spent two of his five seasons in Howe in Division II where the Dogs went 17-8 during that time
