the best shops in the county.” But she says the biggest upgrade has been the use of the new project center which was constructed in 2016. The Blums got to teach their own kids (Brittany and Brooke) through the years and they each had quite a bit of success.
“Before then, a lot of kids didn’t have a place to keep an animal— especially a large animal like steer or heifer and we saw an increase in that because they actually had a place to keep them,” said Blum who said that they had to doctor pigs quite frequently at the old ag barn because of the cold temperatures and they would get sick. She said with the new facility, those kinds of issues are now “Ron and I talked about that a lot—about what if they had not enjoyed being a part of the program,” said Blum. “They worked hard, and they probably had to work harder than most kids because it was expected of them. But we’ve had a lot of successful kids.”
