GCEC also addressed rumors that rates would be increasing due to the event. Their statement said that they have remained constant since 2015 without rate changes and that they will have no rate increases due to this weather event.
“We thank you for your patience and understanding of a horrible situation that affected over four million Texans during a record breaking cold weather event,” stated GCEC on social media
Atmos Energy called on customers Tuesday to conserve as much as possible as demand for natural gas were at unprecedented levels. They shared a list of items to help in the conservation efforts which included lowering the thermostat to 68 degrees, lowering water heater temperatures to 120 degrees, unplugging electronic devices, turning off lights not in use, and reducing shower times and avoid baths, avoid using natural gas fireplace, refrain from using large appliances such as washer, dryer, over, and dishwasher.

In a statement, ONCOR acknowledged the difficulties faced by customers, saying:

working 24/7 to restore power to these remaining customers. We recognize the hardships that this power emergency has caused for our customers and communities. We appreciate their patience as we awaited the return of electric generation and protected the Texas electric grid.” For those wanting to pass the time on the internet, it was spotty also with Verizon, AT&T, and Sparklight all having issues due to the historic freeze.
Howe ISD was closed all week due to weather related issues.
