50-year City Councilman Jimmie Aaron was honored at last week’s monthly meeting as he served his final meeting.
In 1970, he and several other leaders of Dorchester formed the first Dorchester City Council. They worked to bring water to the area which is now providing nearly 1,000 citizens.
“Dorchester is lucky to have Jimmie, as not only his service to the city on the council spanning most of the last 50 years, but his assistance at all times toward repairs, knowledge, and help on the water system has been outstanding,” said Dorchester Mayor David Smith. “Jimmy is one of the original community members that assisted in starting and growing the water system for the city and the community. He always has a wonderful smile, greeting, and friendly conversation for anyone that is lucky enough to cross his path.” It is unclear what the longestserving council member tenure is in the State of Texas or in the U.S. But one would think 50 years would place Aaron near the very top if not at the very top.

His seat was filled by his son-inlaw Justin Raner. He will be sworn in this month.

as Howe killed much of the clock by passing around and through the Panther defense. The Bulldogs took a 35-28 lead after Fabacher hit two free throws with 2:58 remaining in the game.
With 2:42 left in the game, Bells’ leading scorer Tanner Carter nearly slipped and fell under the basket but recovered to put up a successful shot and also drew the foul which he connected for the 3 -point play to bring the game within four at 35-31.
Howe was again in position to kill a lot of time on the clock, but a foul called sent Jacob Campbell to the line where he missed the free throw to put the ball back in the hands of Bells. On the other end, Haley fouled Carter who sank both free throws to make it 35-33 with 1:51 left.
Jacob Campbell again was fouled on the other end and made his first free throw to extend Howe’s lead to 36-33 with 1:47 left but missed the second shot which resulted in a Cooper Smith lefthanded layup to make it 36-35 with 1:33 left.
Moments later Taylor was fouled by Smith, but Taylor missed both free throws. On the other end of the floor, Keaton High’s 3-point miss was rebounded by Smith and put up for a bucket to give Bells their first lead of the night at 3736. From that point on, Howe was unable to score while Bells added three to finish out the 40-36 win.
Fabacher led Howe with 13 points while Haley added nine. Other scorers were Jacob Campbell (8), Lankford (3), and Taylor (3).
Howe will travel to Leonard on Tuesday and Whitewright on Friday. A loss of either or both would eliminate the Bulldogs from the playoffs with the exception of a Blue Ridge loss.
