Former Howe Lady Bulldog Kayla Anderson was named Outstanding ScholarAthlete at Howard Payne University.

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne University athletic department today announced Brady Wade and Kayla Anderson as the 2019-2020 HPU Outstanding Scholar-Athlete Award winners.

The Outstanding Scholar-Athlete award is in reality the most prestigious recognition HPU athletics offers. HPU speaks of its athletes as student-athletes, meaning that the emphasis is on academic endeavors. The purpose of this award is to recognize the student-athlete, male and female, junior or senior, with the highest GPA. Kayla Anderson, a junior Kinesiology major from Howe, Texas, started in 51 of 52 games played in for the Lady Jackets over the past two seasons. Playing in the infield for HPU, she has been among the leaders on the team offensively. She will be an Academic All-Conference selection at the end of the year and is a member of HPU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Anderson is the daughter of Brad and Loretta Anderson of Howe.

Local fire departments quickly rids of shed fire on Sunset Street

The Howe Fire Department was on-scene Thursday to a fire at the corner of Sunset Street and L.B. Kirby Ave. Photos by Stephanie Halley.

The Howe Police Department responded to a shed fire on Sunset Street Thursday afternoon. Howe Fire Chief Robert Maniet said that the fire was contained and there was no other damage to any other structure. Also on the scene were Van Alstyne and Tom Bean’s fire departments, respectively. The Grayson County Fire Marshall and the Howe Fire Department are investigating the cause of the fire.
