The Howe ISD School Board will meet on Monday at 6 pm at the Admin Office on Tutt Street. Agenda items of note include a presentation of the Howe ISD 2019 Texas Academic Performance Report. Also of note is a Memorandum of Understanding with Region 10 ESC to be Authorized Provider for Reading Academies.

The superintendent’s report includes items such as HHS renovation update, election information, and the budget calendar. pm at 700 W. Haning St.

Items include a connection with the City of Dorchester on water. The council will also discuss, consider and take action to amend water department budget creating line item number 02-008-78011 in the amount of $45,000 for emergency repairs to water well located on Western Hills Drive. They will also discuss, consider, and take action regarding mowing contracts. They will convene in closed session to review contracts of the city administrator, municipal judge, and municipal prosecutor and later take action.

A historic home at 412 E. Davis St. was destroyed by fire on Wednesday afternoon. Howe Fire Chief Robert Maniet says there were no injuries and the cause is still under investigation. Howe Scout completes “Blessing Box” for Eagle project

Mason Bearden’s Eagle project is a place people can store non-perishable items for those in need. It is located at the SE corner of Haning Street and Denny Street.

expectations, Whitmire said that citizens' county tax rates should not be going up regardless of the appraisal district. Roberts countered that he doesn’t like paying high taxes, but he wants good roads that come from taxes.

A question regarding the relationships between the county and municipalities, Whitmire said that his office works with multiple cities on interlocal agreements to help with city streets because cities do not have the equipment to do it. Roberts said he had been driving the city streets of Howe and said it was an embarrassment to see the roads in Howe.

The debate was generally uncontentious and professionally organized by the Howe Area Chamber of Commerce.

The primary election date is March 3 with early voting beginning Tuesday, February 18 through Friday, February 28, 2020.
