When Rose retired from Howe ISD, Lady Bulldogs Head Coach Derek Lands, who ironically replaced Meng, became the go-to leader for the Hoops Camp program in Howe

"We're a gypsy camp We have to basically be invited and I didn't know whether Derek would want to continue, but he said, 'why change it Let's just continue ' And it's just grown and grown "

Normally, the camp averages around 140-150 kids, but this year's attendance as down to 120 due to the mandatory UIL changes to time available for coaches to be in the gym The only possible dates were during the week of Independence Day with the final day being on the 4th of July.

"We've had over 14 different school districts represented at one point during this camp, said Jernberg Jernberg's first head basketball position was at Edcouch-Elsa in 1972 where his team won the district crown and over the next 39 seasons (including five years in private business), Coach Jernberg served as the head coach at Edcouch-Elsa, PSJA, Round Rock, St Marks, Poteet, Hitchcock, West Orange-Stark and Lake Travis His Lake Travis teams had 14 consecutive winning seasons, 12 straight playoff appearances and his 2010 squad (33-6) played in the state AAAA tournament In 34 years as a head coach, he has had 21 teams enter the post-season including seventeen straight playoff appearances from 1997-2010
