School construction
Continued from page 1 students.
"We didn't want students that move from this new school (Summit Hill Elementary) to our intermediate school and feel like they've been downgraded," said Wilson. "So we're replacing 50year-old tile floors, updating restrooms, and making it a better environment for all students and teachers.."

The expense of the renovation of the schools on Beatrice, Aubrey, and Roberts Streets are not from funds passed in the 2017 bond election. The budget for the renovation, Wilson says, is coming from the regular school operating budget.
At Summit Hill Elementary, some of the classrooms on the west side of the campus are nearing completion with carpet and installation automatic motion lights. Meanwhile, the east side of the building (which will be the center upon completion of Phase II in years to come) has been enclosed as a storm shelter complete with concrete walls and ceiling to protect against a natural disaster. Construction workers are still waiting for several days of dry weather to finish the exterior roofing on top of the concrete ceiling.

The tile has been placed in the restrooms and even a water fountain has been installed in a hallway.
