The postcards shown in this picture are of the homes of movie stars and an industrial legend in the Hollywood and Los Angeles area These types of postcards were all the rage in the time of Hollywood’s to see orite m in rs’ rd s d began producing colorful photographic linen postcards of the stars’ homes for tourists to take home with them or mail to friends. Several of the cards had a small photograph of the star in one corner


Many stars lived in communities near Hollywood and Los Angeles as well and their homes became places to visit and collect postcards of their homes. Clark Gable and Mickey Rooney lived in Encino; Robert Montgomery, Ginger Rogers Myrna Loy, Buster Keaton, Tom Mix, Gloria Swanson, Alice Faye, and Charlie Chaplin resided in Beverly Hills Will Rogers left his home in Claremore, Oklahoma to move to Beverly Hills in “The House that Jokes Built ” The famous married couple Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks’ home, “Pickfair,” was also in Beverly Hills Judy Garland and Claudette Colbert had homes in Bel Air; Tyrone Powers resided in Brentwood Jackie Coogan lived in Los Angeles, as did Norma Talmadge Bing Crosby lived in Toluca Lake in North Hollywood Cary Grant enjoyed a beach home in Santa Monica
Warren Baxter was an American film actor from the 1910s to the 1940s Baxter became known for his role as The Cisco Kid in the 1928 film In Old Arizona for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor at the 2nd Academy Awards He frequently played womanizing, charismatic Latin bandit types in westerns, and played The Cisco Kid or a similar character throughout the 1930s, but had a range of other roles throughout his career He lived in Hollywood
Norma Marie Talmadge (1894-1957) was an American actress and film producer of the silent era A major box office her career reached a peak in the early 1920s, when she ranked among the most popular idols of the American screen Her sister Constance was also a movie star It is rumored that Billy Wilder used Norma Talmadge as the source of Norma Desmond, the grotesque, predatory silent movie queen of his 1950 film Sunset Boulevard
