Spelling Bee

On February 5, the best spellers from eight Grayson County schools met at Grayson County College South Campus in Van Alstyne to determine the best of the best These students were from Sherman, Gunter, Denison, Van Alstyne, and Howe It was apparent from the start that they had all been studying hard for this competition After twelve rounds of spelling, however, two spellers had risen to the top Haylee Richard from Scott Middle School in Denison and Kloey Scott from Howe Middle School correctly spelled words for the twelve more rounds Neither young lady hesitated to spell such words as beryllium, ambuscade, millefeuille, and phaeton The tension in the room became noticeably tenser as the competition progressed Finally, in round 24, after Richard had misspelled vulcanize, Scott correctly spelled piazza and became the 2019 Grayson County Spelling Champion

This is a lyric from a song by Albert Von Tilzer, New York lyricist of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame “ fame Other of his hit songs included: "Put Your Arms Around Me Honey" published in 1910 and "Oh, How She Could Yacki Hacki Wicki Wacki Woo" which was made popular by Eddie Cantor in 1917 Von Tilzer is also remembered for emitting "Oh, By Jingo!" a novelty number that the record-buying public of 1919 seems to have found particularly irresistible As if to inaugurate the new decade with another impossibly successful hit, Von TIlzer epublished "I'll Be with You in Apple Blossom Time" in 1920, and then the moderately successful "Dapper Dan" in 1921. He was a prolific lyricist and wrote hundreds of songs Von Tilzer worked on Broadway composing scores as well as contributed songs to films in the 1920s and 1930s. . " The cards are attributed to being from an Illustrated Song Series 1821/1-4 the postcard export boom, published both subject and topographical cards The Theodor Eismann publishing and printing company was known for their chromolithograph printing process which they often identified as "Theocrome ”
