Virtual auctions, another name for online auctions, facilitate online activities between buyers and sellers in different locations or geographical areas. Various auction sites provide users with platforms powered by different types of auction software.
Online auctions mirror traditional onsite auctions and usually involve multiple bidder participation. In both scenarios, bidders and sellers buy and sell tangible and intangible products and services. Starting bids are low, but increase at steady rates to meet market demand and item popularity. The time span of an online auction ranges from one to 10 days for items offered 24/7 worldwide. Online auctions are a widely accepted business model for the following reasons:

Walker led a discussion on the future lot sizes and home square foot minimums that could be raised to attract more citizens that currently are on larger lots outside of the city such as Stark Lane, Lopez Drive, and Old Highway 6.
Discussions involved short-term goals versus long-term goals and short-term revenue versus long-term revenue and what impact the decisions of zoning could have on commercial growth as well as residential growth.
"We did a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis and concluded that one of our city's main assets is our school system and we all feel like it's a good idea to make sure the ISD is fed with longterm students rather than revolving students," said Walker. • Includes a large number of sellers and bidders, which encourages a high-volume online business Online auctions include business to business, business to consumer, and consumer to consumer auctions. eBay is the best example of an auction site that uses all three methodologies.
The online auction business model continues to evolve according to market needs. Examples include eBay, WebStore, OnlineAuction, and Overstock.
And then there are the local online auctions sites such as Wolfe Pack Auctions in Tom Bean and Texas Star auctions next to the Howe Clean laundry on Highway 5. Julie and Dean at Wolfe Pack have fun stuff for sale and an easy site to use. I picked up some great lastminute Halloween décor and a wonderful old wooden ladder for very reasonable prices. They also conduct live auctions at their Highway 11 location in Tom Bean. Go to their website wolfepackauctions.com for more info.

City Administrator Joe Shephard and Board Member LeAndra Beckemeyer suggested a town hall meeting so that the entire community could have input on essentially what Howe wants to be when it grows up.
"This town hall meeting will not be for people to complain about Howe," said Walker. "This meeting is for a constructive path to determine what Howe will look like for the Howe citizen in 2038 or the graduating student in 2068."

The town hall meeting will take place at the Howe High School Lecture Hall on Thursday, Dec. 6 at 6:30 pm. The address is 200 Ponderosa Rd. All community members are invited.
