Howe's That Really saddened that our neighbors to the north, who by the way have one of the lowest ad valorem tax rates in the state, would vote down the school bond. I feel bad for those kids in the cramped hallways that are 500 students over capacity in a nearly 50year-old high school and other outdated facilities. We say we want what's best for our kids - people spend hundreds on cell phones and designer jeans for their kids, but won't stand for a moderate tax increase... I have a feeling the majority of Sherman voters would have easily voted this through, but we have an epic voter apathy issue. It was an overwhelming weekend for the Walker family. This publication was voted Howe's Business of the Year and I was honored to be voted Citizen of the Year. But the highlight was this former publication owner and my Papaw Bob Walker being inducted into the Howe Hall of Honor. He was a good man and we are very proud of him, not only as a community leader, but as a family leader. Many stories were told this weekend about days gone by regarding J.J. Chisum, who was inducted into the Howe Hall of Honor on Friday night. Some stories made me realize that every time I think about or especially taste a piece of green Double Bubble chewing gum, it reminds me of him. But nothing was worse that trying to chew the gum inside of a pack of 1980 Topps basbeall cards...in 1985.

The Howe High School Winterguard performs their award winning act in downtown on Saturday. Perhaps the first "hot" day of the year reared its ugly face on Saturday as people and vendors lined the downtown area for the 31st Annual Founders Day Festival. There were many activites and performances throughout the day. The featured performance was the Bent Creek Band who played from 4 pm to 8 pm. The Howe High School Winterguard's boys and
girls performed in the middle of the street in the 3 o'clock hour. This year's main sponsors were Slim & Renew and Marla Butler of Fairway Independent Mortgage.
