Howe's That Peaceful transition of power takes place among sensible people with morals, class and overall good judgement. And then there are people who throw rocks at police officers and burn flags. As of Friday afternoon at the noon bell, America transferred from one president to another. As soon as President Donald J. Trump took the oath of office, it began to rain in Washington D.C. But in Howe, Texas and in small towns across the country, the sun was shining bright as the promises of the incoming commander-inchief spoke words that whistled around tall buildings in big cities and took ground upon the small towns of the heartbeat of America like seed to black dirt. Just as every new president promises, a new day has dawned. A new beginning of hope. But the speech given by President Trump was like none ever before him. It was one-in-a-row as far as pointing fingers to those sitting near, next to and across from. It was probably not well-received from Washington elite, other foreign countries, the hoity-toity elite of the left and right coasts. But it peirced the soul of Bruce in Sitka, Alaska, Dale in Canyon, Texas, and Donna in Ellensburg, Washington. After the inauguration, a march was held by protesters throughout Washington and in large cities across America. It's a shame for the protesters that their efforts weren't quite as strong on November 8.

Demographer predicts Howe ISD to double in size in 10 years The Howe Independent School District recently contracted the services of a demographics company to give the ISD some insight on the future growth of Howe and the possible need for additional campuses to house the growing student population. Trent Smith of Templeton Demographics gave the results of a study they conducted in Howe in the fall of 2016. Due to a projected influx of new homes, Smith told the Howe ISD Board of Trustees that the enrollment numbers are predicted to go from the current 1,070 students to 1,945 in the 2016-17 school year. He also mentioned that the district could enroll more than 1,200 students by 2018 and 1,388 at the fiveyear mark at 2021-22.

TekWav to offer internet service to Howe citizens With limited options for internet outside of the city of Howe, J.J. McGrath, owner of TekWav, came before the city council to request space on one of Howe’s water towers for a transmitter. The space on the tower would be leased on a monthly basis and would provide service for those in and outside of the CableOne internet area. Councilman Sam Haigis asked whether his service would cause interference from other broadcasts and McGrath answered that they have equipment approved by the FCC that will not interfere with anyone due to

their unique frequency. “We provide a wireless signal from the tower to your house.” said McGrath. “This tower will get its signal from Sherman. We broadcast in Sherman, Denison, Pottsboro, Bells, Whitewright and Tom Bean. That’s where we are right now. We have over 700 clients and over 2,000 waiting.” McGrath says that there are 40-50 homes in Howe that are currently on the waiting list for the service TekWav continued on page 8
