Faith by Debbie Wallis

“If you’ve gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if His love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if you care then do me a favor: Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand Think of yourselves the way Christ Jesus thought of Himself He had equal status with God but didn’t think so much of Himself that He had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what, no, not at all When the time came, He set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a slave, and became human! Having become human, He stayed human It was an incredibly humbling process He didn’t claim special privileges Instead, He lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless, obedient death and the worst kind of death at that a crucifixion,” Philippians 2:1-8

Christians must seek to imitate the attitudes and behavior of Jesus This is a very difficult task! We tend to think and react like the people in the world around us Romans 12:2 says we “are not to be conformed to this world: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God ” If you claim to be a Christian you must strive to be Christ-like You can never allow yourselves to be content with thinking and acting in ways that Jesus Christ would not I confess that I fall miserably short of this I can preach His word and then cop an attitude and behavior that is nothing at all like the way Christ would behave All of us feel this way at times If your shortcomings make you feel like giving up don’t Our lives in Christ are a process not an accomplishment. None of us has grown to the point the Lord would have us to be God recognizes our weaknesses God patiently, lovingly and forgivingly bears with us as He draws us to repentance Having the mind of Christ is a growth process Strive to do away with your own will and thoughts and submit to the authority of Christ and what He says we are to be. To do that you must understand what the mind of Christ is; the main thing we are to be like “Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy Instead, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the desires of the flesh,” Romans 13:13-14

What is "the main thing" in Christianity? Is it our view of man and the unity of humanity as one race under God? Is it ethical and moral standards? Is it the emphasis on marriage and the family which is central to all of life? What is the central thing about Christian faith? Is it our hope in the hour of death and in overcoming the great enemy of mankind when we come to the end of life? Scripture is very clear Both the Old and New Testaments indicate that the "main thing" about Christianity is Jesus Christ Himself He is the center of our faith, He Himself as a living being who imparts to us new life by faith in His name His life, His death, and His resurrection are the central themes around which all truth gathers. All truth; whether it is a religious, a scientific, a moral or political nature must center on that Jesus Christ is the central truth of Christianity The fundamental question of life from the Bible's point of view is, “What is your relationship with Jesus?” Jesus Himself put it in those terms when He said to the people, “What think ye of Christ? Whose Son is He?" Matthew 22:42 The fundamental division of all humanity questions that point It’s frustrating that the people who confess to know Him and to have a relationship with Him don’t agree with what His thinking is That confusion is not from God. He is the same as He always was and He will remain the same no matter what we disagree with God is God He is Who He says He is and He does what He says He does It isn’t up to your parents, your spouse, your pastor, a Television host or even this author to align your mind to the mind of Christ All of the previous has influence and we each will be accountable to the Lord for anyone we lead astray. When it is all said and done and we stand before our Creator He will talk to us one on one I will answer to if and why I failed on this earth, after all, I had The Book all along with all the answers and an opportunity to learn from the Master My heart; my, mind, my will and my emotions will answer to agreeing or disagreeing with Christ The good news is He is a good and faithful God and with every breath we have a second chance of redemption You are loved beyond your comprehension by the only true God

“The natural man does not receive the gifts of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned,” 1 Corinthians 2:13
