Howe's That Growing up in this town, our city's main thoroughfare, Haning Street, was always pronounced (HAY-NING), but somewhere in the last few years, people have been pronouncing it (HANNING). It would be really understandable if it were actually spelled Hanning. Even the original Haning family now spells their name with two n's due to a military form misspelling (according to the family). If you run into some longtime Howe folks, they will pronounce it as it is spelled (Haning and not Hanning). You probably won't catch those folks wearing red with their black and white either. When Palio's opens, we will properly make the pronunciation available in this here column for all of you annunciation enthusiasts. That one should be fun.
