Ms. Brezdenjoined the Howe Military Academy faculty in August 2016. Every minute spent in her classroom was filled with activities involving math. Cadets might find themselves completing warm ups, using scissors and glue to organize their notebooks, or trying to solve for the elusive "x". Ms. Brezden loved teaching math and she helped her students understand each concept from its foundation.
Energy radiated from her classroom. She was a force to be reckoned with on any day of the week. Expectations were high and students rose to meet her challenge. Ms. Brezden's favorite day of the year was Pi Day. Cadets looked forward to this day and the many activities that Ms. Brezden had planned. It was with sadness that Ms. Brezden decided to leave HMA in September of2018 for ajob closert home. On her last day she brought in a cake for her classes and was given a surprise potluck luncheon by the faculty and staff. She even received a special farewell from Bambi. We will miss you Ms. Brezden

Whether you were an only child or had siblings, HMA provided you with a network of brothers and sisters who shared a history with you. Several cadets had the opportunity to share their Howe experience with their siblings ... .literally. Dominique and Dominic Julius said that being together at HMA meant that they "always had someone to talk to," and "someone there when you felt homesick." We are a Howe Family!

Howe Military Academy had the honor of sending three seniors to represent our school at this year's National High School Model United Nations Conference. During this once in a lifetime trip to New York City, B. Bruneel, J. Baker, and W. Martin were able to not only participate in a UN conference, which had students representing over 1,000 schools from over 80 countries worldwide, but they were able to make amazing memories of the city.
During their assigned committees, our cadets represented the country of Ireland in discussion about solving topics such as child labor, trade within Southeast Asia, endangered languages, and loss of culturally important heritage sites in conflict zones. The cadets worked hand-in-hand with other students from around the world to negotiate a solution that worked for all involved.
After the conference, the cadets were treated to several activities in the city including an escape room (where they beat the clock with six minutes to spare), a trip to the NY aquarium in Brooklyn, and a production of The Phantom of the Opera from ten rows back on Broadway. Whether it was meeting new people from different cultures and countries or taking a picture with a young boy who was awed by the sight of the cadets in Garrisons, they made memories that will last forever.

It's that time of year again in Howe, when the flowers begin to bloom, the trees and grass are green again, the smell of pig manure fills the afternoon air on the way to second mess, and graduation is around the comer. Parents' Weekend saw the seniors and juniors going underneath the Iron Guard sabers one last time, the last NHS induction into the John A. Pagin Chapter, and cold weather for the parade. Before we knew it, Alumni Weekend was upon us. The campus was filled with alumni, paying their final respects to their alma mater.
Lacrosse pulled in several wins for the season and several cadets practiced their golf swing with Mr. Holman and CSM Wilson on the green. The Old Guard paid their last respects to Mrs. Howe on May 21, placing the traditional sprigs of evergreen on her grave. May 23 brought strong winds uprooting trees all around campus. Lack of electricity sent many cadets home for a long weekend before returning for fin al exams. The Corps marched to the Howe Cemetery to participate in the Memorial Day Service. Prom was rescheduled for May 29. The final week cadets spent their time studying for final exams and praying that they would pas s the class. Awards were given and the seniors finally walked acro ss the stage to receive the long awaited high school diploma. Spring has come to HMA and it is a time for new beginnings.

The Class of 1969 celebrated their 50th class reunion with a dinner prior to the concert.
The following day brought more alumni, a raider demonstration on Delta Square , and the dedication of the President's Quarters followed by a luncheon. Toward evening, alumni watched the final Alumni Week end parade and joined in their final pass and review. Alumni and guests filtered into the Major Merritt Dining Hall for the alumni banquet where several individuals were recognized and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Fanning , Mike Reed, Jill Reed, and Angela Lehmer became honorary alumni. Time to remember our days at Howe Military Academy.50th Class Reunion Dinner
On May 23, 2019, a strong storm with high winds swept through Howe. Trees that had been on the campus grounds for ages snapped in half or were uprooted. Thankfully no one was injured and there was only minor structural damage to a few buildings. Thank you to everyone that helped restore campus so that the final commencement ceremony could be a success.
The Corps took some time on Memorial Day to have fun together on Delta Square before finals began.
On Memorial Day, the Corps of Cadets marched one last time to Riverside Cemetery in Howe to participate in the remembrance of those that had served their country. It was a bittersweet day for everyone in attendance. The Corps will be missed on this day in the years to come. The town of Howe has always appreciated having the Corps participate.

The boy's basketball team played a phenomenal season. This is the first time in several years that the HMA basketball team has had a winning season. Needless to say, the male cadets rang the victory bell 14 times this year. The team worked hard all season to improve their game and it paid off.
This year's team had four seniors: B. Bruneel, K. Overholser, A. Weissberg, and J. Baker. Each player on the team contributed to the winning season, whether they were on the court or on the bench. The support and positive reinforcement given to one another, along with their tireless effort, is what made the season outstanding.
The team enjoyed play i ng at Trine University and during the Hometown Jersey Night. This season will be looked back on by this team with fond memories. Congratulations Cadets! We are so proud of your accomplishments this season!
