Dedication Mr. James Malerich

.. I have known Mr. Malerich for over 13 years and in that time I have learned how much he knows about the school, education and dealing with people. His positive attitude and flexibility are both attributes that I admire. During some dreary times, Jiro Malerich stood by my side and helped me to navigate through those troubled waters. It is indeed an honor to include Jim Malerich as a friend, a confidant and a guide."

Mr. James Malerich joined the Howe family many years ago as an English Master .. Today he holds the position of Headmaster. Some of the duties he has held since he has been at Howe are English Master, Department Chair, Lower School Principal, Athletic Director, Dean of Students, Headmaster, and member of Executive Council. He also taught at the summer camp for over 20 years. He hopes that he has helped the cadets in their education while preparing them for life. Mr. Malerich strives to contribute to the success of the cadets every day. In his 41 years here at Howe Mr. Malerich has been very involved with the athletics department. He has coached junior high golf, as well as varsity football and track. He is a member of the Honorary Varsity Howe Club, as well as an Honorary Alumnus. He has also been in charge of weight lifting. While coaching at Howe, Mr. Malerich experienced his most embarrassing moment. One day in football practice, he and Mr. Abston were standing on a blocking sled when some members of the team were practicing. The next thing you know Mr. Malerich found himself with a broken finger because the sled had run him over. This is only one of the many tales that Mr. Malerich enjoys sharing. Mr. Malerich's favorite sporting team is the Chicago Bears, but Howe always comes first. We speak for all when we say that the cadets at Howe enjoyed seeing Mr. Malerich and his family at so many sporting events cheering on the teams. He also loves spending time with his grandsons and playing golf in his spare time. His biggest inspiration in his life i his family. This includes not only his family at home, but his family at Howe. Mr. Malerich's door is always open to the cadets. Every cadet on campus can attest to being called into Mr. Maelerich's office at some time or another. Many times this was just to make sure that everything was all right. This illustrates the one word that Mr. Malerich used to describe himself, caring. Caring is something that he learned from his father and he strives every day to show the Howe family how much he cares. It has been a great 41 years that we have spent with Mr. Malerich. We look forward to the many years yet to come!

"Mr. Malerich is a legend at Howe. He excels with what he has done, and he has done so much here. I remember him from a very young age. He was my swimming instructor when I was only 8 years of age. I have known him my entire life. He truly loves Howe and he has touched so many cadets' lives with his time and caring. He will never be replaced. He is a wonderful man, teacher, coach and friend! .We love you Jim!" -Dr. Vanorden
