Domenic Vito Criscio was a member of the Howe family beginning in 2000 when he attended the eighth grade at the lower school. This was to be his senior year at Howe. Vito was the recipient of the Sgt. Girard Memorial Scholarship, belonged to the Iron Guard, soccer team, rifle team , choir, radio station,

and school band. He would have become the Executive Officer of the battalion this year. The position has been held open during the 2004-05 school year in his honor. He is greatly missed by all members of the Howe family and especially his classmates in the class of 2005.

11 Vito was a great young man, athlete, student, and cadet. He always had a smile on his face and was always positive and happy. As long as we remember these things about him, his memory will never leave us. He is making God smile now.

-Dr. Duane Vanorden

"Vito was a friend of mine from what it seems to me s i nee the beginning of time. His Iif e was taken away too soon, but his soul remains to guide us through."

-Jose Jimenez

"Having Vito as my friend made such an impact on my life, and in so many ways. Knowing him for three years, he quickly became the person I went to for advice and comfort and was always ready to Iisten to me. He was my friend that I fully trusted and cared about d eep ly. He rarely judged

people and saw the best in most situations. It is impossible to relate his kindness and sincerity to anyone else because he was truly such a unique person. He was my best friend and wi II always be in my heart. I miss you so much Vito."

activities to do together, such as a trip to the movies, bowling, laser tag, live theatre, shopping, or a pizza party.

The time spent with CAP groups is important to cadets. It gives them the opportunity to experience life outside of Howe and build strong friendships with their advisers and peers.

A Celebration of The Holidays

The Boars Head Dinner was started at Howe Military School by the late Colonel Burrett B. Bouton in 193 7 and continued by the faculty and the late Howard W. Downs. Its history goes back to l 300's in merry old England where it introduced the Christmas season. The costumes, the meal and trimmings are traditional.

In medieval England, it was customary for the owners of great estates to usher in the Christmas season by inviting their tenants and

their neighbors to the manor house for a ga l a dinner. As part of the festivities, the waiters and cooks would serve yuletide foods h eaped up high on platters. A boar's head was carrie d in as a symbol to show the devil being d efeated by the Christ child.

he Howe Military Sch oo l band has been around for as

Tlong as Howe ha s been a military school. Starting out wit h j ust ba s ic instruments , the band evolved into a number of different instruments. Individually, these make a moderate sound , but together they make a beautiful story made of music!

The band goes to all different parades and events to represent our school. They also participate in our weekly Sunday parades. The command "soundoff' is when the band marches across the line of the battalion and does a counter column to report back to their post. The parades are usually decorated with the band's music. Band cadets meet for class every seventh hour. Our band practices many long hours for upcoming events.

The band commander leads the ranks of musicians during parades and performances. This year's band commander is Katie Davis.

On October 1, 2004 the Lower School visited a pumpkin farm in Ligonier, Indiana. Everyone enjoyed hay ride s, straw mazes, decorated pumpkin exhibits, the com field maze and wonderful donuts with cider. After we journeyed on to the radio museum in downtown Ligonier, then enjoyed a picnic lunch at the local park.
