IN Making Headlines
The Taller 2000 Volume 16

Bill Trout, a twenty year veteran of the Army, came to Howe in 1971.

William Trout first came to Howe Military School in 1971 as the new tactical officer in Echo company 29 years later, he looks back with a smile at the many influences and changes that have taken place around him.

Col. Trout's motto has always been, "If you want to succeed, Howe is the place to do it." He references several past cadets whom he fondly remembers while at our school and who went on be successful people.

He also remembers General Scott, Mr. Malerich, Mr. Arklie, and John Pagin as past and present leaders of the school he admires. He genuinely expresses a fondness for the people at Howe.

Many cadets have the same fondness for the Trout Family. Any cadets who return to the Howe campus often find "an open invitation" to visit with Bill and his wife Doris at the Trout home.

Reflecting upon the time he has been here, Bill would like to be remembered mostfor being fair, just, and never trying to hold a cadet down, but encourage them to reach for their dreams.

Bill Trout seNed as Echo company tactical officer from 1971-1978, Commandant from 1978-1991, and Activities Director from 1991 to the present time.

His wife Doris Trout has been the Alpha company Dorm Supervisor since 1988.

For over 100 years Howe Military School has been a strong and integral part in the lives of many young people. The willed gift by John B. Howe initiated a long history in preparing students for the many challenges

they face in life. Although the faces have changed, the uniforms have changed, the buildings and teachers have changed, the message is still the same. " Fides et Honor " ... have faith and confidence in your own dreams and live them to the fullest!

To the Senior Class of 2000

years from now it will not matter what kind of car you

drove, what kind of house

lived in, how much you had in your bank account, nor what your clothes looked like. But the world may be a better place because you were important to a child.

BRIAN KUHLMAN

Was it only 4 short years ago that we dropped you off at the door of Company E? It broke our hearts to leave you, especially have just lost Nonna. There has never been a day that we didn't miss you and wish you were home with us. But the price has been worth it. What a fine and outstanding young man you are. The leadership skills developed at Howe and your strong sense of ethics and fairness will continue to serve you and those around you. You have acheived far more than we ever expected or wanted. We know you will continue striving to do your best.

You have our utmost love and admiration for all you have accomplished at Howe. And Brian, you did it all by yourself.

We are so very proud of the person you have become.

All Our Love, Mom, Dad, and Alison
