October, 1985, brought with it the retirement of Brigadier General Eugene D. Scott as Superin t endent of Howe Military School. General Scott served faithfully as Howe's Superintendent for over four years, and under his leadership Howe progressed through many changes. One of the last of his accomplishments was the construction of the new administration building, Herrick Hall, which was dedicated shortly before his retirement. This was, however, only one of a long list of accomplishments which in20 eluded improvements in the academic program, changes in cadet uniforms, improvement of the Disciplinary Board procedure, a general face lift of the campus and buildings, development of the Honor Code and Honor System, and more. Before his departure, the cadet corps honored the General with a parade and gifts, a special chapel service, and a dinner and reception. Howe will remember General and Mrs. Scott for their years of faithful service to the school.

General Scott Retires

Initially hired to serve as Assistant Superintendent of Howe Military School for the 1985-86 school year, Father Robert J. Gallagher found himself suddenly promoted to the position of Acting Superintendent in October, 1985, upon the retirement of Brigadier General Eugene D. Scott. Taking everything in stride, Father Gallagher served well as the school's leader for a period of about 6 months until Mr. Merritt's appointment as the new superintendent. Father Gallagher's friendly smile, enthusiastic energy, and effervescent personality will be remembered by the Howe family of the 1985-86 school year. Though only at Howe for a short period of time, he definitely left bis mark on the school.

To laugh often and much:

HOWE PARENTS'

To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you lived. This is to have succeeded.
