The All Saints' Chapel Choir this yea r had a membership o[ thirty-two boystwelve from Lower School a nd twenty from Upper School. It provided music for the Sunday celeb ra ti on o f th e Holy Euchar is t as well as leadersh ip for da il y chapel hymn sin ging. Each Sunday throughout the year it p erfor mu1 sp ec ial h ymn s or m otets. music taken primarily from the works o f the great R e n a issa n ce an d Baroque composers. As in previous years, the choir performed musi c for the Boar's Head Procession a t Christmas, and on th e Sunday after Easter sa ng for th e Hol y E u ch arist at Trinity Ep iscopal Church in Fort vVayne. It was Trin ity's 21st annual Howe D ay. Jn l\fay a selected group from th e choir a ttend ed a concert given by th e St. Luke's Choristers in Kal amazoo. Kle in , Bishop of Northern India na, on April 7, Palm Su nd ay, a ncl r ece ived al his hands the Sacrament o f Ho ly Confirmation, thus becoming Communi ca nts of th e Episcopal Church. The Quill ;~nd Scroll Scciety consists of high scho::il students who ba1·e displayed wperior ab ili ty in sc me particular phase of journalism of high school publication work, such as writing, editing, busin ess management, and producti on . The Howe chapter o f Quill and Scroll held its annual election for membership to this national socie-ty in the spring. Five basic eligibility req uir eme nts determine membership. The Lower School honor society which is comparable to the .\l pha Delta Tau society in the Upper School, Beta Lambda Sigma, was founded to stimulate high scholast ic achievement among the cadets of the Lower School. Each member of th e society must achieve and maintain an academic average of "Ji" with at least one ".-\" ancl with no grade below "B." They must also maintain an ".\ " in conduct throughout the year. Jn past years all members who go on to the Upper School continue their superior a\'eragc.

The National Forensic League, Chapter No. 71-1, is the larges t honorary organ iz;ition on campus. This is the first year the NFL has bten under the ab le super\'ision of 1\lr. William Hicks. This year's team has had remarkable success in its tournaments. Sherrill started this year by taking num erou; first places in extemporaneous, im promptu, and Student Congress. lllingworth and Thee also backed the team effort with their poli,;hed speak ing. Several speakers qualified for regional and state le\'el compet ition.

Debate this year was not what it has been in the past principally because J\[r. Pagin used his Lop debaters, mostly Seni ors, to break in the Freshman and Sophomore noY ices on the team. The Old Guard, whi ch consists of facult y and cadets who ha,·e bee n reside nts at Howe for four years or more, is th e oldest organization on campus. Under the direCLion of i\lr. John A. Along with supporting Howt athletics, the club donates and engraves athletic trophies, sen·es refreshments at school dances and during varsity competition. The Varsity "H" Club also sponsors pictures of outstanding athletes and team . ..\t the end of the year the club sponsored the final meeting of the Varsity lettermen at the .\ll Letterman 's Banquet.

~\ft er the final fall parade each year, when the marching band seems lo disappear until spring, the concert band becomes Howe's on ly instrume ntal organ ization.
This year, the band members worked hard during the winter months to present their first concert in two years. The concert itself was a success and included popular selections such as Ha\'O Nagila, Colonel Bogey i\farch and the Coronation i\farch. But concerts are not th e concert band 's only function. _ t almost every hom e basketball game, it was the concert band which played the National Anthem, the l-lo\\'e Cheering Song a nd pro\·id cd pre-game and half-time enterta inment. Under the direction of ,\Jr. Gleo Huyck, the band hopes to have another successful season next year.

Under the direction of Coaches Poljak and Swartz, this year's Frosh-Soph football team was the b est Howe has seen in many years with an im pressive •J-2 record. Da\'e Hill led the ground attack with the most yardage a nd was both this year's captain and i\lost Valuable Player. The team sported a big lin e which will hopefully be put to use next year on th e Varsity lc\·el. \!\Tith these a nd next year's returning Vars ity men next year's team will be on the path LO victory. Even though the Frosh-Soph team is not a Varsity organization, they received much >up port from the Corps. , This year's Tat/er, as any Tat/er, inrnh'ed a score o( meetings, last minute decisions, hours o( picture-taking and arranging, endless editing and organi7ing, and all the work and responsibility that any major publication demands. First and foremost, the finances had to be arranged. Captain Da\'C \Vattlcs, through the fine cooperation ancl hours of voluntary labor donated by l\frs. Lilliau l\Jatthews, arranged for ach·enisemems and patron listings which provided the bulk o( the funds necessary for publ ication.
