T

his has been a negative political season. It’s time to stop the insults. Let’s stop the negative branding. Let’s stop the negativity and name-calling and get on with a real debate about the real issues facing the American people and our future.

The stakes are high. People are looking for answers, not insults.

They face real challenges. They want someone who will fight for them, someone who can show them that they both know what needs to be done and that they are committed to getting it done.

Hillary Clinton is the clear choice in November.

She fares better as the moral compass of the nation -- telling hard truths and offering not conversation

A Message of Healing and Hope Will Carry the Day Against Trump but correction. Donald Trump says he will build a wall. Clinton says we need to build bridges, and tear down walls of separation, fear and hatred. She offers a clear eye and a bold alternative to Trump.

Clinton can electrify her voters by laying out a bold agenda to rebuild our cities. Anger and violence is rising. Poverty is more deeply entrenched. Drugs and guns are too readily available. Schools are being closed; children are being lost.

Jobs are scarce, particularly for the young.

Why not call for ending the deferral of taxes for global corporations, making them pay what is owed for the profits they report as stashed abroad? Use that money to rebuild neighborhoods in need.

Provide jobs retrofitting buildings, renovating a decrepit infrastructure from safe water systems to mass transit. Invest in community public schools, with wrap-around services.

Provide child nutrition, health care, pre-k and the basics in education. It is always easier to nurture a strong child than to rescue a broken adult.

The theme “Rebuild America, and put America back to work” rings true today.

A bold program to rebuild our cities, to move them to renewable energy and energy efficiency, to build affordable housing, guarantee access to high-quality health care, prepare great public schools, crack down on drugs and guns and reform our criminal injustice system would create jobs and accelerate growth.

It would move us toward a fullemployment economy in which wages would rise on the bottom, not merely at the top.

Hillary offers a bold agenda that will electrify voters. Defending it against inevitable gibes and attacks affirms the seriousness of the commitment. The scope allows people to see themselves in the change. The audacity galvanizes hope and makes people not only more likely to vote but more likely to bring others to the polls.

The votes of urban America were central to Clinton’s victory in the primaries. African-Americans and Latinos have not yet recovered from the Great Recession. We were hit the hardest in the loss of homes, the loss of jobs, the loss of wealth.

The residents of our impoverished neighborhoods are looking for is someone with a

real plan and a clear commitment to rebuild these neighborhoods.

What we are looking for is a plan commensurate with the size of the challenge. Hillary answers the call.

Want to get voters excited about turning out to vote? Offer a n s w e r s , n o t i n s u l t s . O ff e r commitment, not posturing. Fear of Trump may drive some to the polls, but Hillary offers real hope for change that will inspire many more.

Chris Harvey Brought Black Presence to RNC

hris Harvey is a Houston native that grew up favoring the Republican Party. This July he got picked to represent his west Houston Congressional District (CD-7) as an elected delegate at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

To Harvey, it was important to be there.

“I’ve always found Republicans welcoming,” said Harvey as he spoke about his work with the NAACP’s AfroAcademic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics; Fort Bend; Houston Young Republicans leadership and as an Elections Judge. “I’ve been elected over many years every other year to attend local Pct., senatorial and state conventions where Republican National Convention delegates were elected. Years ago I was elected to serve as an alternate Republican National Convention Delegate.

This year I was encouraged by Republican activists and my wife

(to be a delegate). I put other things aside to run for a top slot,” Harvey said.

Harvey was thrilled to be a delegate at the RNC despite hearing that the number of African American delegates at the convention was low this year. This was something he didn’t believe was true. “I read in newspapers, heard on radio and saw on television this RNC had fewer black delegates in 100 years but that’s not what I saw. What I saw was national press (other than Ted Koppel) walking right by us to interview white delegates because we did not fit the narrative major media wanted to tell. I was interviewed by reporters from Africa and across the world. If it is true there were fewer African Americans this year that is why it was or is all the more important for me to be involved. Our black voices must be heard,” he added.

decades but I was elected in this Republican Party actually over a near 90-year-old activist that has been volunteering and raising money in the local Republican Party since the mid-1960s. Despite her campaigning hard for the post, she served as the alternate. I served as the official voting delegate,” he said.

Like many of his fellow younger Houston activists under 40 Harvey voted in the March Republican Primary for Senator Marco Rubio who is Hispanic and in his mid- 40s for President but “now what is important is for the party to come together for our nominee Donald Trump.” His interest he said is keeping involved to ensure at all levels those involved will know he is there as a young African American and mostly as a Texan American to build better future for all.

Profit from Happiness

he board is all set up.

All your pieces are ready for play, the cards are split, and the moderator has gone over the rules again. Once around the board, try not to get behind, keep all your pieces, and you win. Isn’t that the whole reason for the game of business? Maybe - but read “Profit from Happiness” by Jake Ducey before you roll the dice.

Centuries ago, when various economies were created, there were “secrets to winning” them. The goal was wealth, and you worked for it. Climb the ladder, work some more, “the bubble burst,” you work harder, then you work again. Jake Ducey says that “three-quarters of us are spending most of our waking hours doing something we do not like or care about” just so we can win.

Shouldn’t games be fun?

Yes, says Ducey, but instead, “We are doing ourselves a disservice by perpetuating a society where the majority… would like to quit their jobs.” He offers “six creeds” to fix this problem; use them, and you won’t have to worry about money.

First, offer more value to the people around you. Exude “positive energy” and understand that a paycheck isn’t based on per-hour pay; it’s based on “the value you put into” each hour. Be more valuable, less replaceable, and you’ll be successful.

Secondly, don’t be too busy that you don’t appreciate people. Smile at them, even if you’re not feeling it, and make them feel appreciated. That could make you happier… and besides “What’s the worst that can happen?”

Put yourself in someone else’s T:5” shoes; be present for them, reach out, and ask how you can make

their life better. Listen with your whole brain; practice that superpower by starting a conversation with a total stranger and pay attention. Understand that things aren’t always about you; the grump you’re dealing with may have a legitimate issue that has nothing to do with you. Remember that “it is not what a person says or does [to you] that affects you but your reaction to what is said or done.” And finally, be genuine and open. Don’t build walls. Don’t be afraid.

Sounds a little new-agey-huggy? Yeah, I thought so, too; absolutely, there are things in this book that may be just too much for button-down C-Suiters.

Then again, maybe “Profit from Happiness” isn’t for them…

Someone who’s in a less-formal position, perhaps, or a newbie in business might find plenty of usefulness in author Jake Ducey’s words. His ideas and advice should be easy to implement - it’s all low- or no-cost - and his personal, unique success is hard to argue with. The payout could be big: for the properlyattitudinal employee, this book could result in a huge paradigm shift personally, if not professionally; and habits readers might build could be invaluable.

Like most business advice books, there are things to discard here, and things to embrace but if you’re willing to try it, “Profit from Happiness” might slide you over into the winner’s circle.

It’s your move.

select group of high schools students are getting a once in the lifetime opportunity to work along the pros in a unique summer program that began this month. The students, which are mostly African American, come from the nonprofit organization Change Happens and are being introduced to careers in the sports industry outside of being a player.

Texas Cemetery Scraps “Whites Only” Policy Texas Tribune

A

fter drawing fire for its alleged “whites only” policy, a Texas cemetery conceded its refusal to bury Latino residents is discriminatory and violates federal and state law. Lawyers for the cemetery association, which oversees the San Domingo Cemetery in the tiny, rural town of Normanna, admitted defeat in court on Friday as part of a lawsuit filed after a white woman tried to bury her Latino husband in the cemetery but was told she couldn’t because of his race. The Texas Tribune reports that court filings indicate the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund accepted the cemetery association’s “offer of judgment,” proposing that a judge should enter a ruling against them for the policy and should declare their “rule of discriminating” based on race and national origin as “void.” As of May, the woman still has not been able to bury her husband’s ashes in the cemetery.

Lovell’s Food for Thought - The People You Mentor Are One of Your Greatest Gifts

A

constant theme is not what you say, but what you do. Don’t look at what I say, but the results of my actions. This goes for every facet of our life. When Francis Page, Jr. learned that I was retiring back in 2013 he published the following opinion piece entitled “With His Retirement, Who Will Fill Dr. Lovell A. Jones Shoes. This opinion piece was followed by another entitled The Retirement of Dr. Lovell Jones and its Impact on the TMC.

Well three years later, the Dorothy I. Height Center for Health Equity and Evaluation Research (CHEER) is no longer in existence and the Department of Health Disparities Research has no permanent chair. Again, it is not what you say but what your do. But I also believe that if something is meant to be, it will be. Which leads me to a Linkedin post that I use as the basis for this edition of Lovell’s Food For Thought.

In October 2013, following my retirement from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC), I was invited back to give a presentation as part of the US National Library of Medicine Tour “Opening Doors- Contemporary African American Cheer staff Academic Surgeons.

One of the stops of this tour was going to be a display in the Learning Resource Center in the Mays Clinic Building of MDACC. My talk would be part of the opening of the display to the public. Why is the mentioning of this event important, other than it gave me a chance to highlight the African American surgeons at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC)? I often say that things happen for a reason, and in the audience during my presentation were two individuals involved with working on the oral history project at MDACC – The Making Cancer History Oral History Project.

They had come not only to hear my presentation, but to also extend an invitation to be interviewed as part of the oral history project. I was told that normally the interview would take two sessions, about two hours each. In the end, my interview took four with the final product being about 8 hours. After the final interview, I was told that the sessions would be edited and placed online for people to hear.

I jokingly said, “that with mine it might not see the light of day.” To which the response was, yours is a vital part of the history of MDACC, especially in terms of addressing health disparities.

Over two years later I was stimulated to ask about my interview with the death of a good friend, Dr. Michael Ahearn. Mike was one of my early supporters for addressing the lack of significant numbers of professionals of color at the MDACC. Contained in his obituary was a link to his oral history at MDACC. I looked for mine and could not find it. This resulted in an inquiry about the status of my interview.

I sent the link to a few friends to get their thoughts. They all agreed that it was an outstanding interview; a good companion to the video interview now in the Library of Congress. However, a few thought that if I sent it out to others it might be viewed as self-promoting. However, others said this was something that should be placed in the hands of young persons of color, especially those interested in health equity and that it didn’t matter what people thought. I initially agreed with the first group, but then realized that people will think whatever they want to think, no matter who sends the link out. To me, it became important that this got into the hands of those young scholars, the next generation, as I make my transition.

Whether it is seem as self promotion or not, to me it falls into the words I continue to paraphrase from my mentor Howard Bern, your greatest contribution to science is not the papers you publish, or the grants you are awarded or the honors received, but the people you leave behind to continue the work that is needed. Each of the people pictured in the photo came together to celebrating Howard’s 90th birthday have continued the work stated with Howard, not only making a significant impact on science around the world, but mentoring others to continue that work.

So not having CHEER around and seeing a department that you put a great deal of your heart and soul in to make it happen and achieving does leave one disappointed. But I take pride in the fact in the people who came through the center and the department. And as my mentor said, that, in the end, is the most important thing that one should take pride in, for it is truly the only thing about ones career that truly matters.

Dodge Durango R/T: Blasting the Competition Out of the Water

othing is more annoying than being in a tight space for a long time, especially if that space is in a tiny vehicle. Your legs stay cramp because you can’t stretch them out. Pains develop in your back since the chair can’t recline. You have to fight for space on the armrest with the passenger next to you. All this elevates your pressure, increases your attitude and puts you in a bad mood for the long journey ahead. All of your gripes and anguish can be avoided by choosing the right mode of travel. And for long trips and big groups that perfect choice is the Dodge Durango. It is one of the most spacious, technology filled crossover standouts in its class blasting all other competitors out of the water.

Usually, I start my auto reviews from the outside in but I am switching things up with the Dodge Durango because space is one of its best features.

Often times when vehicles say they seat 5 or more people that number is a bit stretched when considering people’s height, weight and other factors. For the average person, those factors won’t be a concern while riding in the Dodge Durango. It kills the competition when it comes to space. Adults will be able to seat comfortably in any seat in the Durango. And yes, I said any seat, including the third row! And they won’t have to be a gymnast to get to the third row, as rear doors are wide and easily accessible. This makes it great to not only access the backseat but also in lowering it when added cargo space is needed.

Moving into the front seat of the Dodge Durango and I fell in love with the space all over again.

The center armrest was wide enough to be shared the passenger. My butt had plenty of room in the seat. And comfortable is not even the word about how I felt while in driver’s seat. Running my fingers along the inside grooves and twists and I recognized the top of the line craftsmanship of the materials and stitching through-

out the vehicle. This vehicle is visually appealing and functional.

Just as impressed, as I was with the spaciousness of the Dodge Durango, I was equally impressed with its technology. The center console features a large 8.4-inch high-resolution touchscreen where reading the menu is not a strain on the eyes.

Equipped with the standard Uconnect 8.4 system on Dodge Durango R/T makes virtual buttons larger than usual. The driver can clearer see operational functions for the AM/FM radio, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, Voice Command, and Bluetooth Streaming Audio. In the past fuel economy wasn’t the best but Dodge has made improvements in that area too with the V6 engine that has the standard automatic stop-start system. The eye probably won’t notice other improvements but your pocketbook will certainly tell as they also center on better fuel efficiency.

Hillary Clinton: Nobody More Qualified for the Oval

Clinton as one who cares as they talked about how the presidential candidate comforted them when she was a New York Senator. Howard Dean and former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright threw their support in favor of Clinton.

I

n stark contrast to the lack luster Republican National Convention held last week to “Make America Great, Again,” to the exciting, energized Democratic National Convention narrative that America is already great, it has been one roller coast ride in politics for the past few weeks. But nothing could be more thrilling than the shattering of the 18 million cracks in that glass ceiling both literally and figuratively as Hillary Clinton made history as the first female to become the Presidential nominee for a major political party setting the stage for the most important night of her political life.

Clinton’s entire campaign has been swirled in controversy and it didn’t stop at the convention. Just when we thought we had gotten our fill about contentious emails a new story surfaced about a batch of emails aimed at dimming the light of Bernie Sanders by the hands of the chairman of the Democratic National Committee Debbie Wasserman Schultz at the start of the convention. Schultz defiantly tried to stay in her post until after the convention but she eventually relinquished her authority and Donna Brazile stepped in as the interim chairman until Marcia Fudge becomes the official chairman in January.

With that fire loosing a bit of it roar, the 2016 Democratic National Convention started off with stars and screams for an exciting week of activity.

The darling of the night was clearly First Lady Michelle Obama. In a bold cobalt blue dress she made a passionate speech that spoke about Donald Trump without ever mentioning his name. “Don’t let anyone tell you this country isn’t great,” she said, referencing the theme of Trump’s campaign of “Make America Great, Again.” With reference to her husband’s greatest accomplishments as President to laying the road out as to why Hillary Clinton is the one to succeed him, Mrs. Obama was the clear star of Monday night.

It was a night to unify the party as there were still some strong Bernie Sanders supporters holding on to hope for their guy to stay in the race.

Sanders, who spoke, was still sounding like man running for President, highlighting the issues of the “war on the middle class,” Trans-Pacif- Sanders ic Partnership, and minimum wage. In the end, he did give Clinton his full support and encouraged his supporters to follow suit. “I’m proud to stand with her tonight,” said Sanders.

The historic roll call vote began with Larry Sanders, brother of Bernie Sanders, vowing his support for his brother for President of the United States to Bernie Sanders making a symbolic motion to move that Clinton be named the official nominee. After the vote was official, the faces of 44 males presidents rolled on the screen to reveal a shattered glass and a smiling Hillary Clinton as she addressed the delegation for the first time as the party’s official presidential nominee.

“This is your victory. This is really your night. And if there are any little girls out there who stayed up late to watch, let me just say I may become the first woman President. But one of you is next.”

Clinton’s husband, former President Bill Clinton, took to the stages to bring a more human side of his wife and ease the tension of those Democrats that still were not all in to support his wife’s candidacy.

Clinton Beginning with their courtship of how he met a girl to weaving in her service to Americans throughout her political life. He made her more than candidate but a real life that Americans can relate to by showing our commonalities with her. Tugging at the heartstrings of the next generation, President Clinton said, “ Your children and grandchildren will bless you forever if you do (elect her).”

The other focus of the night was on the Black Lives Matter movement as the Mothers of the Movement asked for gun reform. Dressed in black in and white with red flowers honoring the bloodshed by their children to senseless violent acts. Clinton’s strongest endorsement yet came Wednesday night from a man who knows what it means to make history in the mist of controversy. A man who knows what it is like to do so something that no one has seen before. A man who stood where she has stood and rose to political prowess 8 years ago when he accepted the nomination to be the Democratic Presidential nominee.

President Barack Obama passed the Warren torch of his legacy to declare that there was nobody more qualified to be President of the United States than Hillary Clinton, including himself and her husband. His most tweeted line of the night, “Don’t boo – vote.” That is just what Democrats will have to do if they want to stop Trump, vote at the polls come November.

Vice Presidential nominee Tim Kaine introduced himself to the country as he told of his own story taking strikes at Trump along the way. He event went so far to do an impression of the billionaire who believes that he can Holder change the country all by himself with the famous line, “believe me.” Kaine said, “Most people, when they run for President, they don’t just say ‘believe me.’ They respect you enough to tell you how they will get things done.”

Vice President Joe Biden, wavering the banner of the middle class, gave the harshest jabs at Donald Trump for the night. “He has no clue about what makes America great. Actually, he has no clue period.”

Biden told of how Clinton knew the issues and how to address them for the betterment of Americans and putting Trump in office would be danger for us all.

Hillary Clinton takes the excitement of the week and appeals to the hearts of the American people.

Boasting of her experience, compassion, and vision for this nation, Clinton officially ignites the race of her life as the Democratic Presi- Brazile dential nominee.

Houston Style Magazine encourages all to make sure that they are registered to vote and that they exercise that voice by not just going to the polls to vote but taking someone with them to the polls. It is the only way to make sure your voice is heard in the political process. You can’t talk about it and you don’t be about it. Go vote!

Could You Survive In Either Of Their America’s

he only common trait shared by both the Democratic National Convention held in Philadelphia & the Republican National Convention held last week in Cleveland were signs of protest. The RNC saw crowds packed outside and inside Quicken Loans Arena with anti-Hillary Clinton slogans and chants. There were T-shirts calling for her to be in prison over her e-mail scandal and even more vulgar statements said on the convention floor. Less than a week later, protestors gathered outside and inside the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia with anti-Hillary buttons, T-shirts and signs. Outside was the country of the Bernie Sanders supporter, “Bernie Or Bust”, still angry and distraught over their choice for the nominee losing in the primaries.

Members of both parties were bipartisan in only one way during these conventions: a united distaste for the Democratic nominee in Hillary Clinton.

The upcoming November election has already set the benchmark as the most divisive of modern political history. The Republican nominee Donald Trump has arrived to this platform as the new face of Anti-Establishment politics. Serving slogans and rhetoric that would make even the strongest disciple of Reagan blush, he’s the least likely nominee in the history of the Republican Party. Trump’s values and appearance as a rich billionaire are shows of power, even if his actual plans have felt paper thin when explained on the campaign trail. On the opposing end is Clinton, the former U.S. Senator and Secretary of State who has spent the better part of three decades in the public eye, first as First Lady to the 42nd President of the United States, Bill Clinton. An investigation to her handling of the Bengazhi attack determined she had no knowledge to prevent it. An FBI investigation into her e-mail accounts losing 33,000 emails as well as trading classified information to other nations led nowhere.

The #DNCLeak sent the Convention into chaos and led to the resignation of former DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz. The leak, published to WikiLeaks revealed correspondence, emails and voice recordings of top DNC officials not rigging but purposely steering the election for Clinton. These emails were marked after Clinton had largely surged ahead in the polls but it didn’t matter. “Corrupt,” members on both the deep left and far right hiss at her. “Untrustworthy,” others may shout. Trump’s stuck upon easy name calling, reducing Clinton’s accomplishments and accolades to a simple two-step: Crooked Hillary.

They’ve both selected running mates.

They’ve been sniping at one another for nearly 14 months now. And America can’t believe it’s even come to this.

Tim Kaine’s selection as the Vice Presidential nominee for the Democrats is a calculated one.

Not too offensive, not too far leaning one way or another. He’s “cool dad” for America; the man who knows Spanish, deliver a terrible but decent Trump impersonation but overall seem normal. He’s spent most of his time working in Virginia politics, ultimately winning the governor’s race in 2006 and a U.S. Senate seat in 2012. Though he was lauded for his handling of the state of Virginia after the Virginia Tech shooting in 2007, he also has his warts. He, much like Trump’s VP choice in Mike Pence will be scrutinized by most just by association. Pence is conservative and valued by the party, the anthesis of Trump’s bombast and media prickling in almost every way. The strongest jab levied against Pence?

forcing him to declare a state of emergency. Many have stated Pence’s policies in regards to a Planned Parenthood shutdown to due lack of funding and lack of funding for needle-exchange programs were the cause.

While the makeup of both conventions were vastly different (the number of black delegates at the DNC outnumbered their RNC counterparts 66 to 1), the tenor amongst the disgruntled remained the same. Some establishment Republicans such as former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and current House Speaker Paul Ryan have been critical of their party’s nominee. Texas Senator Ted Cruz almost caused a revolt on the floor after he congratulated Trump during a primetime speech for winning the nomination but didn’t endorse him.

As for the Democrats, you could visually see angry and disenchanted young people who feel that a Clinton nomination wouldn’t ensure the third term of President Obama but a return to the same. They’re tired of politicians, they wanted anti-establishment shake up via a septuagenarian who wanted to break everything from the 1% to colleges and more. They protested and clashed outside of Philadelphia and some Sanders supporters audibly booed as the DNC opened.

Most of this chaos was to be expected at last week’s RNC. Mass protests, the #NeverTrump movement clashing with Trump supporters et. al.

Instead, it was rather cordial, save for the vulgar chants directed at Hillary Clinton. The only real trepidation was found in Melania Trump’s plagiarism of a speech delivered by First Lady Michelle Obama at the 2008 DNC and how the Trump kids and their father allegedly leaned towards echoing sentiments of The Purge according to mainstream media.

These three, Sanders, Clinton & Trump have split White America’s voting base into varying degrees of “vote for candidate A because candidate B will ruin America”. There are staunch Trump supporters, staunch Clinton supporters, Republicans leaning left for the sake of avoiding Trump, Democrats leaning right for the sake of avoiding Hillary, Democratic and Republican voters leaning towards Green Party candidates Jill Stein & Gary Johnson and some voters so fed up they’re sitting this year out. Each party candidate has pandered to the black vote to absurd levels with Trump eschewing all political correctness by claiming select portions of a voter bloc as his. Hispanics overwhelmingly are in favor of Clinton, only because Trump’s border wall to separate the United States from Mexico has been his biggest campaign joust. There will not be a wide number of blacks turning out in record numbers like

2008 and 2012. Neither candidate inspires such a drive to the polls, even if one party - the Democrats are explicitly leveling with African-American voters as they’ve done for the past sixty years.

First Lady Michelle Obama delivered the strongest speech of the convention on Monday.

The Mothers of the Movement, a group of women comprised of those who have lost their children to gun violence, killed by an armed civilian or died in police custody were the face of Tuesday as was former President Clinton. Vice President Biden, former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Kaine in his first major speaking engagement since accepting the nomination and President Obama stumped for Clinton on Wednesday, the last of which drew small chants of “please don’t go” from the Democrat faithful in attendance. Their goal was to make a case for Clinton and swiftly decry the very real ramifications of a Trump presidency. In ways, they succeeded. In ways, they did not. Most of it was an attack on Trump with Bloomberg & Obama being more scathing than anyone else. Bloomberg accused Trump of being a “con” while Obama bluntly referred to the 70-year-old former Apprentice boss as a “homegrown demagogue”.

As Hillary Clinton stepped up to the podium on Thursday night to accept her party’s nomination, she staked a claim for history as the first woman to ever be the nominee of either party for the title of Commander In Chief. Celebrities who are far more public such as Snoop Dogg, Katy Perry, Elizabeth Banks and others have lent their support to Clinton.

Others, such as former Charles In Charge star Scott Baio have publicly whipped up support for Trump.

It’s that type of election, one where identity politics have never been as louder and the fate of the free world hangs on a population voting for two candidates only the biggest of supporters would even begin to champion publicly.

James Madison, one of the country’s founding fathers once said about democracies that they “have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention”. There has never be a more contentious or turbulent Presidential election. No matter how qualified Clinton may be, she carries the stains of untrustworthiness across multiple issues. No matter how inspiring Trump can be for a voting bloc that felt ignored by Republican establishment in Washington, he’ll never be anywhere near a traditionally electable candidate. Yet here they are - both fighting for the position of President.

What an ugly fight it shall be.

Añejo Tex-Mex Serves Premium Food and Tequila

T

here is a dining treasure in the Galleria area of Houston, which is a plus to one of the busiest districts in our city. Añejo Tex Mex Restaurant located at 1108-1 Uptown Park has ample parking, an elegant but relaxed atmosphere, and delicious Tex-Mex Cuisine served by award winning Chef Alberto Gutierrez who has over 20 years experience in the culinary arts.

Furthermore, since last weekend National Tequila Day was celebrated on both Saturday and Sunday, I was treated to the Ultimate Tequila Experience and received a thorough history lesson in the unique craft of tequila making while tasting some of the top of the line brands.

First of all, Añejo only uses tequilas that are made with 100 % agave.

Additionally, they infuse some of the tequilas that are used in their restaurant with a variety of flavors to make a wide range of cocktails.

The tasting began with a Berry Infused Margarita, which I enjoyed with an appetizer portion of the Green Pork Pozole, which is made with roasted pork, hominy, cabbage, radish, mild jalapeno-cilantro broth, served with lime, onion & tortillas. The spicy flavors of the soup blended well with the fruity taste of the margarita, which had a little heat in the finish almost like a “red hot” candy.

While the next dish was being prepared, two beautiful glasses made their appearance, one contained Campeón Silver, which is described as “Floral and Earthy on the nose with light caramel undertones on the palate with a touch of cracked white pepper.” The other glass held a sample of Clase Azul Reposado, which is noted as “Caramel, vanilla, a touch of pepper on the back of the tongue.” Both of these paired well with the Sea Bass Ceviche that was garnished with some ample bites of house-made Chicharróns.

The next plate came from the “wood-burning grill”, a petite tenderloin, served with queso-fresco rice, bacon wrapped asparagus centered beautifully in a chipotle cream sauce. The meat was tender, lean, and packed with a rich smoky taste. This dish was sampled with Milagro Barrel Reserve Anejo, this tequila had a chocolate, vanilla and oak aroma while the taste was sharp with a smooth finish.

Finally, the best is last, but is not the least of the group, the Herradura Selección Suprema and the Gran Patron Burdeos samples arrived just as the flan made its appearance. The tequilas accentuated the vanilla, caramel, and honey flavors of the dessert; it was like having a food dance in harmony on the palate.

During my career, I’ve trained guys like Jordan Reed of the Washington Redskins, Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings, Emmanuel Sanders of the Denver Broncos, Rueben Randle of the Philadelphia Eagles, Ryan Grant of the Washington Redskins, Keith Mumphrey of the Houston Texans. I’ve recently also had the pleasure of having three first round picks in this years 2016 NFL Draft: Corey Coleman, Josh Doctson, and Laquon Treadwell.

What, in your opinion, has been one of the most challenging moments that you’ve experienced developing collegiate and professional athletes?

The most challenging thing as a coach is getting the message across to each player so they can understand what you are teaching them, and why you are teaching a certain technique. Each individual is different, so I have to find a way to get through to each player effectively to get the best out of them autonomously.

What is the recipe for premiere talent today’s successful WR. The recipe is simply mastering your craft!

You must spend countless hours sinking your hips, pumping your arms, catching footballs, and watching film. The WR position in itself is comparable to how the Robinson entire game of basketball works- it is a year-round mental and physical perfecting of your skills to maintain optimum performance.

Do you feel that the WR position is one of the most if not the most intellectual position on the playing field?

I feel the WR position is the most intellectual position on the field after the QB. As a WR you must be smart and know how to read defenses, as well as having awareness of where you are at all times on the football field.

Since most of the professional athletes on the grid iron are African American, do you believe they are championed enough in the mainstream? If so, in what regard?

No, I do not believe they are championed enough in the mainstream in an all-encompassing manner. I do believe they are championed in mainstream on

athletic performance, but I feel they can be utilized more publicly on what they do for their community, for charities, and just in general with how they help others in need. A lot of the positive influences the African American player has off the field lacks visibility, yet there is so much positivity to be highlighted.

As a man with a strong character, how do you see your own impact within your community? Please mention what other goals you aim to accomplish while moving forward with your career.

I love helping and impacting the youth around me by bringing them around my college and Pro WRs so they can be mentored and inspired by those already modeling and achieving success the right way. Hence, I have a Big Brothers Program where I have the older WRs mentor my young WRs in school on their grades, character, discipline, and making right decisions. I eventually want to spread my knowledge across the country similar to George Whitfield: QB expert.

What’s next for David Robinson?

The only thing next for me is to continue to get my guys drafted into the NFL and live their dreams. Eventually I want to have players who used to train with me be trainers and coaches under for the next up-and-coming generation.

Final production copies of the book are not available pending the decision of the state board but some have they purchased advanced copies for $69.

hroughout his campaign, Donald Trump has spoken negatively of Mexican immigrants calling them “rapists” and “criminals.” Eva Longoria took on that rhetoric talk to school Trump during her speech at the Democratic National Convention. She dedicated Longoria her time to explain how, as a Mexican-American from Texas, she’s been personally insulted by the GOP presidential nominee. The actress called Trump out on statements he has made about Mexicans, women and the disabled reporter.

Huffington Post reports that Longoria concluded her speech by explaining why she’s supporting Hillary Clinton and pointing out the diversity of speakers at the convention.

Officials have substantial evidence that Davila did violate those rules and “made a poor life choice.” The pageant has a zero tolerance towards following rules. lmost one-third of Hispanics living in Texas remain uninsured although nearly half are eligible for insurance under the Affordable Care Act, according to a report. The study, conducted by the Rice

Vivian Ho, co-author of the report and chair of health economics at Rice’s Baker Institute, told HispanicAmericans.com the high cost of premiums is likely a key reason why more Hispanics don’t enroll. Ho also suggested that more community outreach would help increase enrollment.

ercedes-Benz is one of many automotive companies working on self-driving vehicles. They recently unveiled a selfdriving bus called Future Bus. The bus uses Mercedes’ autonomous driving system called CityPilot. Riders inside the bus can find a lounge area where they can charge smartphones and tablets. Large displays will provide local information and maps. Reports say the bus has designer seats but not seat belts. The bus travels at top speeds of 43 mph and collects data for the city as it travels. It can report road problems like the potholes to the city, which the city will then eventually get around to repairing.

But the announcement comes one day after Apple reminded the world that the iPhone magic is fading. Resilient Container Volume at the Port of Houston Authority Port of Houston Authority

M

id year results are steady for the Port of Houston Authority.

“Container volume continues to be very resilient, topping well over one million ‘TEUs’ (twenty-foot equivalent units) through the first six months of the year,” Executive Director Roger Guenther stated in his report to the Port Commission. “It’s tough to compare 2016 versus 2015 on the container side,” he added, “because at this point last year container volume had spiked at an 18% increase over the prior year.” In 2015, the Port Authority handled a record-breaking 2 million plus container TEUs. The Executive Director shared that while container TEU count is down by 4 percent, “activity has exceeded our expectations for the year thus far.” Guenther further noted that “we are optimistic about the second half of 2016, with the traction already gained in the East Asia trade.” Combined overall cargo tonnage for the Port Authority facilities also reached 17 million tons for the first half of the year.
