2022 HOUSTON SPORTS AWARDS
STARS SHINE AT THE HOUSTON SPORTS AWARDS The 2022 Houston Sports Awards presented by Insperity was held on April 20th at The Wortham Center in downtown Houston.
The theme was Deuces Wild inspired by the high-rolling casinos of Las Vegas, and this year’s Houston Sports Hall of Fame inductees, Sheryl Swoopes, Clyde Drexler, and Roger Clemens, who all wore number 22. All three were in attendance, as well as Houston native
and ESPN anchor, Hannah Storm, who hosted the show. The night began with a walk on the star-studded red carpet, leading into a cocktail reception inside the theater. There was plenty of food, drinks, entertainment, and mingling with celebrities to get the party started. The evening was highlighted by appearances from Sylvester Turner, Simone Biles, Carl Lewis, Julius Erving, Vince Young, and many others. Speeches were made, awards

were given out, and the night culminated with a performance by Toby Keith. Houston is one of the most prominent sports cities in the world and having so many icons under one roof made for a truly unforgettable night. THE HARRIS - COUNTY HOUSTON SPORTS AUTHORITY TURNS 25! @hchsa Wednesday, April 20th, was a monumental day for both the Harris County – Houston Sports Authority and the city of Houston as HCHSA celebrated its 25th Anniversary and presented the 5th Annual Houston Sports Awards. The 25th anniversary celebration took place at the Ballroom at Bayou Place, directly across the street from the Houston Sports Awards. Filled with past and present board members, members of the Texas Senate, the Texas House of Representatives, and governing officials of the city of Houston, this event was grand and elegant. Throughout the event, 25 years of photos from the Harris County – Houston Sports Authority flashed on screen showing the attendees how far the city and the company have
come. After a wonderful evening of mingling and dining on some tasty treats, Janis directed everyone’s attention toward the screen. A video started to play which took attendees back in time to 1997, the year it all started. As the touching video of the Harris County – Houston Sports Authority and its history concluded, representatives of Harris County, the state of Texas, and congressperson Al Green all showed their congratulations towards the Houston Sports 4

Authority for 25 years of service. The events presenting sponsor, Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP, was represented by Mark Arnold, who shared his praise and best wishes for the next 25 years of the Harris County – Houston Sports Authority. With the start time of the Houston Sports Awards creeping closer, attendees of the anniversary celebration made their way across the street to the red carpet and inside the Wortham Center for the 5th annual Houston Sports Awards.

2022 BROTHERS IN ARMS CELEBRITY GOLF TOURNAMENT
On Monday, April 25th, some of Houston’s greatest showed up and showed out for the second annual Brothers in Arms Celebrity Golf Tournament presented by TDECU. On April 25, the Harris County - Houston Sports Authority hosted the second annual Brothers In Arms (BIA) Celebrity Golf Tournament at Carlton Woods Golf Course. This jam-packed day included a helicopter raffle ball drop, live music, good food, and even a party on Hole 6! Proceeds raised through the event will help provide BIA diversity scholarships. Brothers in Arms was formed under the leadership of three of Houston’s most legendary quarterbacks, Andre Ware, Warren Moon, and Vince Young, who were
all raised by single moms that stressed the importance of education. Brothers In Arms offers financial assistance and diversity scholarships to student-athletes being raised in single-parent environments. HOUSTON TEXANS HOST A WATCH PARTY FOR THE 2022 NFL DRAFT On Thursday, April 28th, the Houston Texans hosted a watch party for the First Round of the 2022 NFL Draft at Miller Outdoor Theater in Hermann Park. Hundreds of Texans fans were in attendance to support their team and welcome the newest collection of talent to the franchise. The party started hours before the draft, featuring food, drinks, games, and entertainment. Appearances from current Texans players, Toro, the Texans Cheerleaders, and the Texans Pep Band
energized the crowd before General Manager, Nick Caserio, and new Head Coach, Lovie Smith, provided video messages expressing their excitement for the upcoming season. The Texans had the third and fifteenth overall picks, selecting Derek Stingley Jr., a defensive back from Louisiana 8

State University, and Humble, TX native, Kenyon Green, an offensive lineman from Texas A&M. Fans erupted into celebration after the announcement of these two selections and will have a lot to look forward to in the 2022/2023 season.

2022 RIOT GAMES @lcsofficial The LCS Spring Finals came to Texas for the first time ever, hosted at NRG Stadium on April 23rd and 24th. For the first time, the Riot Games League Championship Series (LCS) made its way to Houston, TX. This popular esports tournament was hosted at NRG Stadium and had over 10,000 people in attendance. This year marked the first time the event was held in Texas and the first time the
event was hosted in an NFL stadium. This two-day competition included preliminary and final rounds with players playing “League of Legends,” a team-based multiplayer strategy game. Along with the competition, fan fest booths and activations were 9

set up all over the stadium. The event highlight came from a particular team known as the “Evil Geniuses” when one of their players, Danny, had one of the most impressive plays the LCS had ever seen. Let’s hope the Riot Games can come back to Houston again!
