BMX 101 / STEM PROGRAM BMX 101 exposed countless kids to a new sport as well as a healthy lifestyle This program had a huge impact on our community through the sport of BMX and cycling HCHSA touched hundreds of kids, signing up more than 100 schools School districts involved Houston Independent School District and those in Humble, Spring and Klein & some private schools
In continued efforts to host the International Table Tennis Championship, HCHSA brought the ITTF to Houston on a site visit. HCHSA HOSTS MEMBERS OF THE INTERNATIONAL TABLE TENNIS FEDERATION US WOMEN'S OPEN TROPHY TOUR The trolley visited iconic Houston destinations, offering the community a chance to pose with the 2019 trophy In preparation for the 2021 U.S. Women's Open, USGA and Houston officials showed off the trophy on a trolley trip around the city on June 7th, 2019 NRG STADIUM
The State of Qatar, through its $30 million Qatar Harvey Fund, announced a gift of $3.3 million for the construction of eight soccer fields in Harris Country HURRICANE HARVEY DONATION FROM QUATAR WORLD CUP COMMUNITY EFFORTFREEKICKS This program helps grow the game by introducing children aged 7-12 around the city to soccer for free with eight week sessions in the fall, spring and summer DeAndre Hopkins partnered with Houston 2026 World Cup Bid Committee President, Chris Canetti and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Houston to create Freekicks Soccer. Turner Stadium Gateway to Gold is a nationwide athlete identification and development strategy that exposes Americans with Paralympic-eligible impairments to Paralympic sports

Athletes got to try out sports like wheelchair tennis, track and field and power lifting and learn about them on a beginner or intermediate level. They could also talk to coaches and athletes, test their skills and learn more about adaptive programs such as those at TIRR Memorial Hermann

ROCKSTAR ENERGY BIKE PARK GRAND OPENING

12257 Kuykendahl Rd, Houston, TX Rockstar Energy Bike Park is complete with a world-class BMX racing track. The North Houston Bike Park features both an Olympic and amateur sized starting hill and a VIP viewing deck The opening ceremony was held on Friday before the beginning of an open practice session in anticipation for a Texas State Championship Qualifier on Saturday, August 17

BROTHERS IN ARMS

Heisman Trophy winner Andre Ware, Hall of Famer Warren Moon, Texas Longhorn legend Vince Young and Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson came together to form Brothers In Arms which, in partnership with the Sports Authority Foundation

Brothers In Arms awarded its first class of diversity scholarships at the 2020 Houston Sports Awards presented by Insperity on January 21 at the Hilton Americas.

The application process requires a recommendation letter from current school teacher or administrator, a recommendation letter from current coach and a written essay on "What does diversity mean to you and how has it affected or impacted your life?"

In order to apply- applicants must participate in a high school sport, reside in a singleparent home environment, represent diversity, have a current grade point average of 3.0 or higher, demonstrate leadership ability through a variety of measures and demonstrate outstanding financial need. Those who advance through the selection process will go through an interview before the committee makes the final scholarship selections.
