11TH ANNUAL HOUSTON CHRISTIAN MICKEY RIGGS RELAYS MARCH 24, 2012 Michael Riggs served 8 years as the Athletic Director at Houston Christian High School before retiring in 2009. He served 37 years in public school education as a math teacher, coach, head coach athletic director, and administrator before joining the team at HCHS. He was an integral part of developing Houston Christian Athletics into one of the top competitive high schools in the region. After having had the good fortune of playing on the 1963 National Champion Football Team at the University of Texas, Riggs began his teaching/coaching career at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School in Austin. Coach Riggs then spread his public school education career over six school districts in the state of Texas: Deer Park ISD, DeSoto ISD, Hardin-Jefferson ISD, East Chambers CISD, Lago Vista ISD, and Katy ISD, the bulk of his service being 13 years with DeSoto as the Eagles’ head football coach and athletic director. Coach Riggs values HCHS’ overall approach to athletics, finding joy in the successes of all girls’ and boys’ sports programs at Houston Christian as the Mustangs give God the Glory for the experiences we enjoy in the athletic arenas. He and his lovely wife, Minin, also a career educator with Beaumont ISD and Katy ISD, share the joys of six children and three grandchildren.
